Floor needs a deep clean

Hello - just after some tips for really scrubbing my kitchen floor which is a laminate tile. I think there is a layer of dirt that just isn’t shifting with the mop and I want to scrub it with a brush and some washing up liquid.

but the space is really big (large kitchen/diner/utility) and there are 3 kids, a dog, a husband and 1000 toys at any one time.

my thoughts were to tackle in stages and then at least I know it’s been done, even if I have to do it over a few evenings. Has anyone used one of those big floor scrubbing brushes, they almost look like a sweeping brush, and had success??

my regular mop isn’t great, I have a steam mop and also one of those spray mop things.

all advice gratefully received! 😊

I actually paid a guy to come out and clean mine a couple of years ago, it was tiled with annoying little pits in it so always looked manky. He used some sort of machine. Didn't cost much, took a couple of hours and looked loads better.

Have now replaced it tho!

I did mine (tiled, 2 dogs and a toddler) at the weekend. Used a mix of washing up liquid and floor cleaner and a soft yard brush scrubbed all over left to soak and scrubbed again then mopped with one of those spin mops it came up great.

I have a safety wet room floor (the one with raised dots) and I cannot get it properly clean!

I have used bio washing powder in hot water on my kitchen floor to get a dried in stain out before with success

I mean I love just paying someone to do anything. Once had a professional oven clean and it was a game changer.

alas, Mat leave means it’s just me scrubbing the deck but I will keep this in mind! Thank you!

Yes this is what I was thinking. Is it just like a normal outdoor brush? Nothing fancy? I’m looking at the ones on Amazon and thinking I could just get that at b&m?

Have a look at Safety Floor Cleaner. It what’s used in schools etc with altro flooring.

I have some black and white vinyl tiles and they can hold on to the dirt. Every other time I mop it I add bleach which brings them back to a brighter white.

Do a deep clean with the brush and washing up liquid but I also recommend when you do your normal clean to shuffle around with a white towel to dry the floor, the absolute state of it when you’re done is eye opening, but I say white towel as you can put a bit of bleach in your mop bucket and the combination of the bleach wet floor and wiping the floor with a towel gets quite a lot of dirt up (but crucially the towel will come up fine on a quick wash)

Well the reason I’ve realised I have to do a deep clean is the baby has started commando crawling and her sleepsuits are filthy! So the towel dry is a great shout.

I actually had the same conundrum as you a few months ago - I did do it in stages...bleach, then a bit of hot water and scrubbed with an old school scrubbing brush...worked really well and saved crawling baby's pale clothes no end! Now I'm just mopping more often!

chillinwithmygnomies · 05/06/2024 22:22

I swear by elbow grease spray for giving the floors a deep clean, spray it on leave it for 15/20 minutes and go over with the spin mop rinsing well in between each mop. We have a pitted floor in the utility that's leads to the garden so a lot of foot traffic and this brings the floor up brilliantly.

There’s a new level of mum guilt when they are just dirty from the floor…but nice to know I’m not alone!
