Oiling an elliptical trainer?!? Help!

Ok, we have an eliptical trainer (a Nordictrack Ellipse 950E). We've had it for yonks, but not used it that much. Anyway, now it's actually getting used more, it seems to be seizing up. How do I oil it? With what? Where?

My inclination is to use thick grease, and oil it anywhere that moves ...

What is it

Am imagining a running machine, but not sure

NotQuiteCockney · 06/04/2008 19:18

It's like a running machine crossed with a bike. Your feet rest in little trays and go around in a circle, attatched to a ... heavy thing ... you know?

You need silicone gel ideally. We never oil our x trainer beacuse its only a crap one, but the treadmill needs doing regulary. When you undo the casing, it becomes obvious which bits need oil, so that might be the case for you too. In fact, need to do it soon, as ds2 slid a postcard into the internal mechanism that I still havent removed

There isn't much of a casing, I don't think? I think it should be obvious which bits need oil.

I have found a copy of the assembly instructions online, so I guess I can do all that in reverse to take it apart.

Where do I buy silicone gel?

TBH, I'm not sure as dh gets ours from work! Sports shop (proper one), Halfords type place?
You shouldnt have to take too much apart, as the oil will drip in of course.

Ah, well, that's a good start, anyway. I'll have a peer at it. I can fix bikes, surely I can oil a trainer ...

Does the website not have guidelines?

NotQuiteCockney · 06/04/2008 19:57

No. The website is just about selling more product.

I can contact them, I guess. It's just not very tempting.

Oh, gah, ok, I've had a look at it, and it's non trivial to open up. I need to get at the flywheel, don't I? Maybe?

Well, I can start by oiling the joints I can see, as I guess those are the mostly likely to have dried up.
