Tips for getting rid of moths please

One room in our house seems to have a lot of moths, the little beige ones that eat your clothes unfortunately. Up to now we've just been using it as a storage room but I'm keen to clear it out and utilise it as another bedroom. Before we start putting furniture and clothes etc in it, I'd like to address the moth problem. Does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of them? The room has a carpet, roller blind and curtains. Happy to part with blind and curtains but can't lift carpet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Having inherited this problem, the carpet is the main issue unless it's 100% acrylic.
Clear everything out, vacuum, spray with more moth killer than you think you need (or get a firm in to do it) - open window and shut door for at least 24hrs as its nasty stuff.
Go through everything that has been stored in there, preferably take outside and empty out, wash all fabrics, vacuum all containers, otherwise you'll spread to other areas of the house/just put the problem back.
And then use moth traps going forward, vacuum regularly including under furniture and try not to stack things on the floor.
Good luck!

I had this and the wool carpet in my bedroom was eaten to shreds. Tried spraying, powder, pheromone traps and cedar balls. Nothing worked so I pulled up the carpet and got a new cheap acrylic one. I still see the odd moth, but they do seem to have decreased dramatically.

Sorry to say what you don’t want to hear but we had them and they had eaten huge swathes of carpet before we noticed. We replaced the carpet and that was the end of it. I have wool blankets in that room and never a nibble.

You need to bin, hot wash or freeze everything made from keratin (hair/fur/wool/feather/nail) that has been in that room to stop the infestation. Going forwards, keep such items in sealed boxes/bags but expose them to light and air regularly (e.g.: take all the wool blankets out of the cupboard, shake and refold them every so often - you'll catch if there are moths and it discourages them from settling there). Hoover frequently if you have pets that shed fur.

@CosmicLove or anyone else, what moth traps are better for wardrobes do you know?
I got rid of a lovely stair carpet when I moved, and painted the stairs for the time being as it seemed to be a source.. There's no carpet in the house but I still see them sniffing around albeit massively reduced.

Advice of first poster worked for me. Only thing to add is if you spray the carpet yourself, remember to spray well into the edges by the skirting boards.

I used Acana spray from Waitrose and it worked first time.

Thanks both 👍
