Duvet choice

I am upgrading my double bed to a king size after 25 years. I currently use a 'homescapes' goose feather and down duvet (for at least 10-15 years). 4.5 tog all year. I don't like being too hot but I also like to wrap up and like the way this duvet moulds around you.

I've gone mid - high end on the bed, mattress, sheets etc.. willing to spend up to around £350 for the right duvet. I've looked (online only) at:

  • 100% goose down - not sure I feel like these are ethically farmed but willing to assume that if stated and they are right for me
  • Mix of feather and goose as per current one . seems like a safe choice based on current experience, but I feel like 100% goose is an upgrade
  • 'feels like down'. Although I use an 'anti snore' memory foam pillow for neck support reasons, my spare bed has these as pillows and I really like how they feel/guests complement
  • wool. seems to get a lot of compliments about heat regulation. obviously natural. They just look thin and pancake like to me - not sure I would be able to wrap up in them or they would 'fall correctly'
  • silk - don't know much about these

Any recommendations? Thanks!

100% Siberian down for me please

I have wool. It's not puffy or cloud like but it does sort of wrap/fall around me
I really like it and much prefer it to anything I've had before
My dad was very.. dad like "wool?! Never heard of the like. And HOW MUCH?!"

2 days later he's ordered one and says he loves it

The wool ones are amazing. They are thin so I'd say if you really want the puffy feel they won't satisfy you but I do wrap around my duvet and I love it. In terms of temp regulation is second to none for me so far. I think it sits fine on the bed

Nope to wool. It's just too flat. Like having a blanket.

I like silk for hot weather but that's also relatively thin (thicker than wool, thinner than down).

I'd go ethically made Siberian down with 1000 thread count cotton bedding from Richard Haworth (except for 25 momme silk pillowcases).

Best thing I ever bought, my wool duvet. The bed looks lovely when made as it's not all puffy, and I use it all year round. When it first arrived it felt a bit 'crispy or crinkly' but it softens up quickly. One hundred percent recommend.

I'd like to geg in as a wool fan, its lovely and warm. It might be flat but its sort of heavyish so feels substantial. Mine is 2 tog I think. I also have a 100% cotton one which is 2.5 tog. Cotton for summer and I add the wool on in winter time.

I've gone for the synthetic feels like down because it seemed that the environmental cost was less than the cruelty in even ethical down. I have two that snap together for winter. Several years on, it no longer has that puffy cloud feeling. I think I'd be tempted to try wool if I were to replace, but I'm put off by the idea of it feeling like a blanket.

Wool all the way for me too. It is flatter on the bed, but that just looks neater imho. I spent a lot of time researching it, so find one that suits you. I found one that was made in the UK, which I love the idea of. Support local and sleep well. Winner!

I've got a Snuggledown Hungarian Goose Down Duvet. I love it and it's available in 4.5 tog. I believe it's cruelty free.
