What should I expect from my cleaner in 3 hours?

I have a 4 bed, 3 bath house and I am looking to get a cleaner for 3 hours fortnightly. I am not sure if I am expecting too much as I have not had a cleaner before...any advice welcome.
I would like all bedrooms dusting and hoovering and mirrors cleaning. All 3 bathrooms cleaned including shower screens, tiles and floors. Chrome radiators in bathrooms polished up too. Hallway, landing and stairs hoovered. 2 Reception rooms dusted and hoovered. Large kitchen with dining area would require worktops wiping down and floor swept and mopped. Another small lounge dusted and hoovered along with hallway area. Downstairs toilet etc. Would I be asking too much for all this to be done in 3 hours?

Sounds like a lot to me

AColdClearDrink · 23/05/2024 15:04

I agreed with my cleaner what I wanted her to do (and what she was happy with) and she takes as much or little time as she wants/ needs to do it.

Notreat · 23/05/2024 15:07

That sounds far too much in three hours. Could you do all that in three hours I am sure I couldn't

Aug12 · 23/05/2024 15:08

Sounds like way too much especially for a fortnightly clean as there will be buildup between each visit.

RatherBeRiding · 23/05/2024 15:09

As PP said - how long would it take YOU to do all that to an acceptable standard - sounds far too much to get through in 3 hours.

Yes!

I have a cleaner for 3hrs a fortnight:

Cleans x3 bathrooms
Mops floors downstairs
Dusts

Anything else I want only gets done if there is time remaining, otherwise I have them alternate jobs if I've managed to do some in the week.

Everything you've listed is far too much to complete in 3hrs.

Sunnysummer24 · 23/05/2024 16:51

Way too much. I would say you would need at least 6 hours for that.

mrsbyers · 23/05/2024 16:52

Same size house and my cleaner achieves that (except tiles in bathrooms ) plus cleans the hob and utility room sinks and taps

Mindymomo · 23/05/2024 16:55

Depends on a few things, a new bathroom suite doesn’t take as long to clean as an old suite. My bathroom is over 20 years old and needs a thorough clean that takes a good hour to clean well. I think you may be better having a cleaner do weekly 2 hour cleans and see how much can be done in that time.

Aubree17 · 23/05/2024 16:58

Your house sounds like mine. 4 beds. 3.5 bathrooms.

Our cleaner does 3 hours every two weeks. The house is always clean. I'm not sure everything gets done every week.
I think it probably depends how much messy you are in between. We have no pets, don't smoke and generally pretty tidy.

Calypsocuckoo · 23/05/2024 16:59

My house is similar and my cleaners do 2 hours so 4 hours a fortnight and they do all of that including wiping down all cupboards, all windows and changing beds.

ScrubMum · 23/05/2024 16:59

It depends the size of the rooms imo, you get big four beds and small 4 beds. 3 hours isn’t a lot to thoroughly clean what you’re asking OP. I agree with a PP 6 is more realistic.

NotTooOldPaul · 23/05/2024 17:02

I have a two bedrooms, a study, a living room, a kitchen and one bathroom. My cleaner takes three hours to do the whole flat.

Was going to say, you need to be getting them in for 3 hours per week.

BlackberrySky · 23/05/2024 17:04

My house is a similar size and my cleaner also comes fortnightly. I would say 4 hours as opposed to three, but mine fits about 20 mins of ironing into that as well.

This is not a good way to judge it. My cleaner works WAY faster than I ever could. Best thing to do is get the cleaner/company round explain what you want doing and ask whether they think that's doable in three hours.

Having said that I have a smaller house than yours with 4 beds but only one bathroom and my cleaner comes for 3 hours once a fortnight. I do want more done in the kitchen though than you've outlined and I ask her to do an inside window or two on rotation.

Littlefaerie · 23/05/2024 17:38

It'll depend on clutter levels too

SeaToSki · 23/05/2024 17:44

If you have very little furniture, nothing on surfaces (so hooveringand dusting are very quick) and the bathrooms are small and easy to clean, then yes 3 hrs could probably do it.
But if you leave a load of shoes by the back door for her to move before she can mop, lots of picture frames, and bits on tables and bookcases, lots of stuff on your kitchen counters and toys all over, then its not long enough

OneHeartyViewer · 23/05/2024 17:45

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'll see what she can achieve in time given.
I now have an idea of what to expect.

We have a weekly cleaner for our 5 bed 3 bathroom house, she hoovers and dusts each bedroom but they are all tidy before she comes, one of the bedrooms is often empty (dc at uni but it’s used sometimes when she’s away), and one is my office which she will hoover and dust if I’m not in there, then hallways stairs and landings, front room and kitchen - she says the kitchen takes the longest, it’s quite big. We empty bins etc before she comes and she’s here for 4 hours.
I can’t stress to you how important it is that the house is tidy before she comes! Shoes/coats/bags all away, nothing left on floors, we don’t have loads of ‘stuff’ anyway so surfaces are all clear (like dining table, kitchen island and sides etc), obviously we have shelves with books on them and she will dust around.
Clothes all put away, no piles left about.
It’s great as the night before she comes we all have to make sure we’ve done our part and then she comes in and smashes through the cleaning. I reckon I could do what she does in 4 hours but I’d fucking hate every second of it!

mambojambodothetango · 23/05/2024 18:11

I have a similar arrangement in terms of hours. She does kitchen, 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, hallway and stairs on each visit. Because we have 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms (I know, no-one needs 4 bathrooms) I tell her which 2 each week. If I want her to do anything else (ironing, windows etc) I sacrifice a bedroom. Bedrooms don't really need doing every week.

caringcarer · 23/05/2024 18:22

My cleaner had 3 hours a week. She cleaned kitchen worktops, cupboard doors and cooker top and glass splashback. She steam moped floors in kitchen, downstairs cloakroom, family bathroom, sitting room and hall. She dusted in the sitting room, she polished up my coffee table. She cleaned a large mirror in the hall and a small mirror in the cloakroom. She cleaned the family bathroom including the toilet. She vacuumed up the stairs and along landing and one DC bedroom. She cleaned DC bedroom including wiping over his window sill and bedside cabinet. She also ironed 3 shirts for DH and occasionally picked in my washing from the clothes line. I did other bedrooms, and cleaned our ensuite and general tidying before she came so she could clean.

ItsFuckingBoringFeedingEveryoneUntilYouDie · 23/05/2024 19:24

Mine does all that in 3 hours except the kitchen surfaces. But, she comes weekly, so there is less chance for build up. I won't say it is show home clean, but we have pets and both WFH and it is good enough for our needs.
