Foxes pooing on doorstep

VelvetTurtle · 20/05/2024 09:43

What can I do to stop foxes pooing on my concrete door step? I did have a quick check but most of the posts were referring to the garden. I have a fox that keeps pooing on the concrete outside my front door. I have a cat so needs to be non toxic to cats which I think jeyes fluid is toxic to cats? Any ideas?

I'm not sure how well this would work for you but we have foxes in the garden and they started coming onto the grass where our little one plays we sprinkled chilli powder liberally around the edge and it kept them off until it rained 😒. My FIL filled up some plastic chilli containers which sprinkle the powder out and that has been more long lasting.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/05/2024 18:14

If you can find where the fox's den is, go and poo outside it yourself. 💩See how foxy likes it. That's what I did.

My case comes up next month. 😦

Foxes wee on my front door mat so watching thread with interest

shellyleppard · 20/05/2024 18:21

Citrus peel is meant to keep cats off the garden.... would it work for foxes too??

mountaingoatsarehairy · 20/05/2024 18:23

Spray with dilute bleach spray. The smell Puts them off. No cat is going to lick the bleach so should be safe

I think licking the bleach is exactly what a cat would do! I rarely use bleach, but when I do I have to be really careful to shut the cat outside because she seems to be attracted to the smell. I know of other cats who like wet swimming costumes too - something about the chlorine smell common to swimming pools and bleach - so it's not just my cat.

Wash the area with hot/boiling water and then spray vinegar, apparently supposed to stop dogs marking their territory.
Could work?

Superstar88 · 20/05/2024 18:44

We used the movement trigger water spray and it helped. Problem is that often I forget to turn it off and get wet myself) we had to change the whole setup they still 💩 but in different area.

PuppetQueen · 20/05/2024 18:46

Foxes usually poo/wee to mark their territory, so it must have taken a liking to your garden! How about covering your step in silver foil (the strong kind, for roasting turkeys) for a week or two? The strange noise and sensation when they step onto it might put them off.

Asabat · 20/05/2024 18:47

Chilli in any form (flakes, sauce, powder) has usually worked for us, but you do need to clean thoroughly first - like cleaning up dog pee - breaking down protein and fats.

chocolatecoveredpeanut · 20/05/2024 18:48

Could you get a sensor light that comes on? Would be helpful for the door as well as might scare away foxes?

PuppetQueen · 20/05/2024 19:02

Chilli seems quite cruel...I know its not deadly, but if the fox (or your cat, or any other passing wildlife) get it in their eyes, it will be very painful for some time.

There is a humane fox repellant called Scoot, which works by making the fox think that another fox has already scent-marked the area.

Another possible solution is to plant a dense, prickly hedge around your garden and install a gate.

We used Scoot fox repellant which worked. It’s a powder that you mix with water and pour on the affected area. I put it on the concrete floor all around my car in our building car park. The foxes were constantly on my car - I could cope with the odd scratch and the footprints, but when they took a shit on my windscreen I’d had enough! 🤮
(Note - car park is covered and dry - I guess you’d need to reapply if your doorstep gets a lot of rain)

My cat LOVES bleach. If there's a faint whiff of it on the floor she'll be rolling around in it!

slaggybumbum · 20/05/2024 22:39

CFs. Who knew!

Onand · 20/05/2024 22:46

I’d be more worried about them openly mocking you and your home, they’ve marked you by defecating on your doorstep. What else will they do?!

I’d have to move.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 20/05/2024 22:50

try red ground pepper - they difficulty is stopper the pepper from blowing away so sprinkle over r a doormat and the place the crap on

HaystackHair · 20/05/2024 22:55

You could try part filling a 2 litre clear plastic bottle with water. The light reflecting off the water puts them off.

Rebusmyfire · 20/05/2024 22:59

Urine is a deterrent.

My neighbour used to send her husband out to wee around their hen shed when the fox family were hanging about.

Yes! This brought back memories of a colleague getting her husband and all his drunk friends to per round the borders of her garden. It works, but must smell a bit grim.
The other thing that is reputed to work is lion poo, if you can get hold of any 🤣. Someone told me that you used to be able to get it from the zoo, but now not possible because of modern health and safety standards. (Urban myth?)

longdistanceclaraclara · 21/05/2024 08:14

Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and chilli powder, spray liberally. Top up as needed.
