Since I am in the market for a new one

I need to know brand, model, and specifically how long it takes to run through a "quick wash" cycle...

Thank you kindly

Bosch model WFO2866.
Easy care 30 deg wash takes 42 mins. it has a little countdown timer so you know how long to wait before it's done

MrsMuddle · 02/04/2008 22:08

Zanussi something. The eco cycle takes fecking ages - 2.5 hours. But there is a quick wash and a daily wash that take about 30 and 50 mins. But the very best thing about it is that you can delay the start by 2, 4, 8 or 12 hours. So I can set it to go on through the night and finish at 7.30 so I can hang it out before I go to work.

Don't know the model number, but if you're interested, I'll find out.

Avoid indeshit.

Ceolas · 02/04/2008 22:09

We have a Bosch WAE28465. Don't think they make it any more and have updated with this one. It looks better as it has an 'express wash' function.

Ours does a 15 min super quick wash fwiw!

FrayedKnot · 02/04/2008 22:25

Ooh I like the sound of 15 mins

And delay function on Zanussi sounds good. I want to be able to get a wash done first thing and hang out before work.

Our old one was a Siemens and even the short wash took about 2 hours

It was a nightmare so in some ways I ma glad it has died.

kittywise · 02/04/2008 22:26

I don't know the details but it's a BIG, BIG Bosch 9kg

WendyWeber · 02/04/2008 22:36

I've got a Bosch one a bit like readytoswiggin/Ceolas's - it will do a 30 degree "mixed" wash in 35 mins and 30 degree easycare in 42. (But it mostly does a 40 degree cotton wash in about 70 mins)

Has 6kg drum and is bloody good

MrsMuddle · 02/04/2008 22:39

here is the newer version of the Zanussi one that I've got.

Flubdub · 02/04/2008 22:39

This one. And I lurve it. Ours is silver and stainless steel though - much nicer.

Furball · 02/04/2008 22:43

I have the one creolas has linked to. it has a 15 min refresh wash though I have never used it.

I have only used 40 degree normal wash which takes 1 hour 16 mins. It works well, long enough to clean and rinse the clothes without being crazy like some I looked at that took over 2 1/2 hours

LarryVeestAdamAntSpawnChorus · 02/04/2008 22:43

Miele W 3922

Express wash takes about 30 mins.

I thoroughly recommend it.

Furball · 02/04/2008 22:46

cor blimey gov - the price on that!

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 02/04/2008 22:46

Miele

About 30 - 40 minutes. Money well spent. IMO.

WendyWeber · 02/04/2008 22:48

WAE28363 looks like nearest equivalent to mine, but even better as it has 1400 spin.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 02/04/2008 22:48

Furball

They generally last about 20 years, so about £50 a year, 96p per week.

I'm a cloth nappy-er, so we wanted something indestructible, water/energy efficient and uber-reliable.

Both my Mum and the PILs have ancient Mieles. They really do go on forever!

glucose · 02/04/2008 22:54

I have a Bosch WF2425 bought it in 2001, the seal has got leaky on the door in the last month, otherwise its working perfectly, and local chap coming out to fix it (new part £30, chap's time £49 - but central london) Getting this done as I am confident machine has lots of life left in it yet. Have a friend who highly recommends Miele machines.
So when I do need to replace will do so with either Miele or another Bosche

LarryVeestAdamAntSpawnChorus · 02/04/2008 22:54

Oh, and you can definitely find that model cheaper elsewhere.

TBH I think I'd rather get an entry-level Miele than a top end model from another brand.

glucose · 02/04/2008 22:55

Sorry 40 mins for wash, and it's done 2.5 years of nappies, smelly Army kit

magicfarawaytree · 02/04/2008 23:05

no point buying an 8 or 10 kg machine if you have not got a dryer big enough or no where to put the washing. check out the which report.

according to which

Best Buys Zanussi-Electrolux ZWF14581
Price: £370
Score: 73%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
This Best Buy Zanussi-Electrolux gives excellent washing results across the board: whether you use the cotton, easy-care or 30 degree program, your clothes will come out clean. It?s one of the best models we?ve tested.

The 7kg capacity ZWF14581 from the Jetsystem+ range automatically adjusts the water and energy use according to the amount of washing in each load. We tested the 40 degree cotton program with and without the Jetsystem+ engaged ? both scored equally well, but you can save 10 minutes by not using Jetsystem+.
Whirlpool SCW1012
Price: £655
Score: 71%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
This silver Whirlpool washer has the biggest drum capacity we?ve tested ? a massive 10kg. Cleaning results are impressive for the easy-care and 30 degree programs, and annual running costs are very low. But like many other machines on test, this model has a weak rinse cycle.

The large drum means the Whirlpool SCW1012 will take up more space than a normal washing machine. If you have enough room, you can buy a matching pedestal drawer to provide extra storage space underneath.
John Lewis JLWM1407
Price: £359
Score: 70%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
John Lewis has scored a hit with this 7kg washer. The synthetics easy-care program is outstanding. The 30 degree wash and standard 40 degree cotton cycles also clean well, but rinsing is a let down.

Many machines we test fail to rinse well, so this on its own isn?t enough to prevent this model from being a Best Buy. However, if you have sensitive skin or detergent related allergies we?d recommend you use an extra rinse.
Whirlpool AquaSteam AWO/D AS128
Price: £480
Score: 70%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
The Whirlpool AWO/D AS128 washing machine cleans well on its main 40oC cotton program and is outstanding on the easy-care program. It also includes three steam options.

The short Steam Refresh cycle aims to quickly remove odours, while the steam sanitisation option offers an anti-bacterial effect. This is quite a specialist program so youre unlikely to use it frequently, and it adds more than an hour to the program time. We were very impressed with the steam stain removal setting though - it takes about as long as the 40oC cotton wash but with even better cleaning results.
John Lewis JLWM1203
Price: £299
Score: 69%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
This Best Buy washing machine is from the John Lewis? exclusive range. The JLWM1203 is one of a select group of machines which does well in our rinsing test, and cleaning performance is impressive too.

The easy-care program is excellent at cleaning, and the 30 degree wash and standard 40 degree cotton programs also perform well. Most machines we test are poor at rinsing clothes and leave too much detergent behind, but the JLWM1203 is better than most in this respect.
AEG-Electrolux L62810
Price: £294
Score: 68%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
Compare prices: AEG-Electrolux L62810
Although not the best across the board, this 6kg model scores points for excellent cleaning on both cotton and quick cycles.

A cotton wash does take nearly two and quarter hours but the quick wash saves you over an hour.
Miele Prestige Plus
Price: £550
Score: 68%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
The Prestige Plus extends Miele?s enviable good record in our cleaning tests. It gets clothes clean and provides a superior level of rinsing compared with most other models.

What?s more, Miele is consistently at the top of our brand reliability chart in our annual reader survey.
Miele W 2809i WPM
Price: £758
Score: 66%
Freestanding or built-in: Built-in
This built-in washing machine is one of the most expensive around, but it performs well in our washing tests, has plenty of features, and benefits from Miele's good brand reliability, making it a Best Buy.

The cotton wash is excellent, and if you want to reduce the wash temperature to save energy, this one gives the same excellent cleaning results even at 30 degrees.
Miele W1512
Price: £499
Score: 66%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
Compare prices: Miele W1512
The large door rim gives this Best Buy an imposing look. Inside, it?s one of only a few machines to provide outstanding cleaning on both cotton and quick programs, but handwash cycle we tried was disappointing because delicate items shrunk.

If you have sensitive skin this model is a good choice as rinsing is better than most of our other Best Buys. We liked the filter which is easy to clean and slip a drip underneath to capture waste water. This entry-level model has an AAB energy rating it is cheap to run thanks to low water and energy use.
AEG-Electrolux L64810
Price: £374
Score: 65%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
Compare prices: AEG-Electrolux L64810
This machine is a Best Buy. Washing performance is excellent, and rinsing is better than most machines we've tested. Spin drying also proved to be acceptable.

There is a good choice of programs including easy iron, handwash, and extra rinse. The maximum spin speed of 1400rpm is variable, and can be reduced to avoid creasing delicate loads. The drum capacity is 6kg.
Miele W1714
Price: £665
Score: 65%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
Compare prices: Miele W1714
The Miele W1714 includes a distinctive 6kg honeycomb drum and a few extra convenience features than the norm. Wash results are good on 40 degree loads and the low temperature 30 degree program did well.

What?s more rinsing is respectable and Miele have an outstanding reliability record in our annual survey.
Miele W1514
Price: £545
Score: 64%

Compare prices: Miele W1514
Sometimes we find more basic machines within a range don?t perform as well as their more sophisticated counterparts. However there are no such problems with this Best Buy - good cleaning across the board is the strength of this 1400rpm spin speed Miele machine.

The main 40 degree cotton wash is just shy of two hours and the short program which takes 75 minutes is fairly long however both programs shift stubborn stains such as chocolate well.
Zanussi-Electrolux ZWF1451W
Price: £299
Score: 63%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
Compare prices: Zanussi-Electrolux ZWF1451W
This Zanussi-Electrolux Best Buy is packed full of useful features and provides a great cotton wash, and good cleaning across the board.

Extra programs include easy-iron, wool, handwash and extra rinse. The clever memory function can be set to remember your favourite programs, so that you can call them up quickly and easily.
AEG-Electrolux L74810
Price: £349
Score: 62%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
Compare prices: AEG-Electrolux L74810
This Best Buy is almost identical to the L62810, but has a higher 1400 spin speed. It?s great on its 1hr 6min short wash and cleans easy care fabrics well.

Spinning is good and it?s easy to use. The excellent quick wash takes just over an hour, but rinsing isn't the best though.
AEG-Electrolux L86810
Price: £449
Score: 62%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
Compare prices: AEG-Electrolux L86810
The Best Buy L86810 gives good cleaning results, and its powerful 1600 rpm spin is effective at removing water. But the L86810 is let down a little by very poor levels of detergent removal during rinsing.

Available in white, this model offers a good range of programs, including handwash, easy iron and woollens. Energy and water consumption are good, especially on the 40 degree cotton program, so as a result it?s reasonably cheap to run.
Bosch WAE 24465 Exxcel
Price: £402
Score: 61%
Freestanding or built-in: Freestanding
Compare prices: Bosch WAE 24465 Exxcel
The WAE 24465 Exxcel cleans well across the programs we tested and Bosch has a good reliability record, however rinsing is poor.

The default programs on this Best Buy Bosch are set up for only cleaning light soils such as sweat and deodorant stains.

This machine cleans well on cotton, easy-care and short programs.
Bosch WFX i2840
Price: £830
Score: 60%
Freestanding or built-in: Built-in
Compare prices: Bosch WFX i2840
The 6kg drum on the Bosch WFX i2840 is larger than most other built-in models. Cleaning is reasonably good, but is let down by slightly by poor levels of rinsing.

The default programs on this Bosch are set up for only cleaning light soils such as sweat and deodorant stains. Overall using this machine is easy but choosing programs to tackle dirtier washing at lower temperatures can be tricky. If you have dirtier laundry or a large load we?d recommend selecting the wash plus option, although this will increase the length of a wash cycle, and energy and water use.
AEG-Electrolux L12510Vi
Price: £630
Score: 58%
Freestanding or built-in: Built-in
Compare prices: AEG-Electrolux L12510Vi
This built-in model has a delayed start function which allows the machine to be set up 19 hours in advance, and an electronic time remaining indicator.

It washes well across the board and has an excellent short wash which takes just over an hour. However rinsing is below par and adding an extra rinse cycle does little to increase detergent removal from clothes. The handwash program won?t damage delicate garments but is poor at cleaning.
Bosch WLX 24162
Price: £345
Score: 57%
Freestanding or built-in: Compact
This compact model is smaller than a conventional washing machine, but it still manages to squeeze in a respectable 4.5kg drum capacity. It's the best of the compact machines on test, and also benefits from Bosch's good brand reliability, making it a Best Buy.

The 30 degree wash is really impressive and gives excellent cleaning results, so you can save energy by washing at lower temperatures safe in the knowledge that your clothes will still come out perfectly clean.

Wow magic, that's an indepth reply!

AVOID SERVIS, I repeat AVOID SERVIS.

We got one as it was the cheapest when we were 1st married and broke. Useless.

burstingbug · 02/04/2008 23:26

Zanussi Like the one mentioned earlier, but it takes a 7kg load and has a very good 1200rpm spin. Delayed start, count down timer, something like 4 different spin settings. etc etc
Quick wash on a cotton 40 setting takes about 55 mins iirc.

It's a fab machine. We got ours from curry's online, using a discount code and quidco, for just under £230 I think.
