Downstairs loo smells like wet towels

Or more specifically, like my dog's wringing wet towels when I've left them in a heap waiting to be washed for too long. Horrible smell, have thoroughly cleaned everywhere, bleached toilet and plug hole/overflow and there is no sign of any leaks anywhere but it still stinks. Tiny room, nowhere for anything to be hiding, hand towel gets changed regularly and definitely doesn't smell, bin is empty and has been cleaned and I'm officially out of ideas, help! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hopeful bump, I can smell it outside the toilet door in the hall now, is my whole house going to smell of wet doggy towels? 😱

Damp under flooring.

I would be looking under the floor and behind anything, there must be a leak somewhere.

Is it a bathroom/shower room or just a loo and sink?

DahliaMacNamara · 30/04/2024 19:23

Wet wood somewhere, from a quietly leaking tap perhaps?

Hadalifeonce · 30/04/2024 19:23

We have a very shallow fall on the 'out pipe' from our downstairs loo. If it has only been half flushed instead of full, after someone has had a poo, it can sit somewhere underground, emitting a horrible smell. I have been known to put a bucket full of hot soapy water down there to clear the system, sometimes 2. It might be worth a try.

Will try the bucket of soapy water Hadalifeonce, we do have trouble with that toilet blocking, although not recently that I know of, still worth a try! It's just a toilet and sink qwertyqwertyqwertyqwerty, no shower and no wood DahliaMacNamara, in fact all the pipe work for the taps is completely visible, no drips or leaks. Think I'm left with damp under flooring really aren't I, it's that awful black non slip stuff the council/HA's put down and there's nothing visible but don't suppose that means anything. Would that be from a leak we can't see if it is damp under the flooring? Just trying to work out whether to fetch the flooring up myself and replace or call the housing association out to look for a deeper problem 🤔
