Preparing fruit and vegetables

At the moment I wash about half my week’s shopping, chop it up and store it in boxes in the fridge. I love the convenience of being able to grab it as needed.

But after about three days I notice a drop in quality which is why I only prepare half of it.

At the moment the algorithm is filling my feed with reels of people making a weeks worth of lunches, storing strawberries in a jar for weeks, shopping once a month.

If my fresh fruit and veg lasted two weeks in the fridge I’d consider that good going. So I’m wondering am I doing something wrong? Or is the food different - irradiated, or different pesticides in the US?

I do have a few things that last for ages - apples for about 6 weeks in the fridge, carrots, onions and potatoes do fine for a couple of months out of the fridge.

So I’m curious to know what others are doing, in terms of washing, storing and how long you’d expect cut fruit/veg to be optimal?

I wouldn’t expect cut fruit & veg to last more than a couple of days tbh. Once you cut into it you’ve taken away the protection of the peel and allowed the air to get to it.

Keep in mind that vegetables lose nutrients and flavor once cut because they are exposed to air (oxidation). Proper storage of cut vegetables maintains freshness and flavor longer, and also makes them really easy to eat as snacks or use in recipes. All cut vegetables should be used within 2 to 3 days

I've just washed and dried the grapes and strawberries we bought today. I've put a piece of kitchen towel in the bottom of each re-used Chinese takeaway plastic box, and only filled each up enough that I can still close the lid. The grapes should last a week this way. The strawberries will probably go off as soon as I look at them.
