How big a washing machine would you need to wash this rug?

Does anyone know if this will fit/wash? I have a 10kg Samsung machine

My rug is 160x230 (5ft x 7.5ft) - in the description it says the one smaller to mine (4ft x 5.5ft) would fit in a 8-10kg machine

I have a 10kg Samsung EcoBubble and I think, even if you can fit it in, then when it gets to the spin cycle it'll complain about the weight of it and just sit there sulking until you force it to drain (like when I have the temerity to put a couple of pillows in there)

justasking111 · 12/04/2024 18:18

I wouldn't. I have a much smaller one and have to be careful putting it in

Marblessolveeverything · 12/04/2024 18:18

I wouldn't use a washing machine I would power wash outside on line.

Be heavy when it’s soaking wet. Mine sulks when I do my velvet throw. Have to drain it then spin.

Could you use a carpet cleaner? I picked up a vax carpet cleaner for £15 of Ebay. My rugs/carpets come up like new and they dry really quick.

I agree with power washing it outside on the line, that's how it will come cleanest.

Carpet cleaners work but not as well imo.

I don't think it would fit in, and certainly wouldn't spin properly. Take it to a Wash.Me (it was called Revolution laundry, you find them outside at supermarkets or petrol stations) and use the 20kg washing machine there.

There are some things I have learned very late in life. These include trying to wash a feather duvet by hand, and rugs of any kind.

They get so heavy when filled with water they are impossible to lift up.

If it's machine washable (I didn't check the link in detail) then for me, jr would be off to the launderette. I doubt this can go into a normal machine as it will weight too much. Laundrette machines are built to take more weight.

They are a bit pricey now yes, but I'd rather pay that than go through the sheer frustration of dealing with heavy wet items and then trying to get them dry.

Thank you everyone I'm so glad I asked first - going to avoid and get some professional help in the meantime!

I think the weight of it wet would be bad for the washing machine. And the machine may struggle to spin it.

I'd take it to a place like this

Clean it with a carpet cleaner or jet wash it on a sunny day . It will kill your washing machine

Good shout on the carpet cleaner. Our local DIY shop used to hire them for a reasonable price and we would get all the family rugs done.
