How do you store gloves and hats?

Kindnesskindnesskindness · 30/03/2024 12:15

DH, 2 adult kids and me.
All doing outdoor sports.
We have lots of winter hats and gloves and also baseball style caps for summer sport

Any tips for how best to store them please?
Currently we have a box each where coats are kept but it gets so messy; we can’t lay our hands on things etc.

Amy suggestions please?

TIA

I'm waiting for the weather to warm them I'm going to wash them all. Get rid of any that don't fit or are past their best and give them a drawer each for the ones that are left.

We haven't got many baseball type caps. The ones we do have are usually on a hook.

Drawers in a wardrobe. I find it easier to do it by type rather than person.

Before we improved our storage, I had draw-string bags by person hanging on a hook.

I have a trofast unit from ikea with different drawers for different bits.

It sounds like you might have a lot more to store than we do. Do you have a garage or attic? If so then I'd get some plastic boxes with lids and some sort of moth/rodent deterrent. Ours all fits inside the drawers of a chest of drawers and i put moth repellent in with them.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are thinking they might need to go upstairs into bedrooms/wardrobes. But then I can envisage someone about to go out, realising they've forgotten hat or something and 'popping' back upstairs with shoes on!!

I have a shopping bag (one of the reusable ones) and they are in there on the be ch behind the front door. Not the prettiest but exactly where we need them as we leave the house.

BetweenADockAndAHardDrive · 26/10/2024 06:08

We have one of those hanging things from IKEA with compartments in the coats cupboard.
Makes them all accessible when leaving the house and means it's very easy to just grab things (and put them back!).

OMGsamesame · 26/10/2024 06:09

In what way does it get messy? Is someone not putting their stuff back in their box?

Autumnweddingguest · 26/10/2024 08:48

We have a big chest in the hallway with six wicker basket drawers in it. One basket each for hats, gloves, scarves, then a couple of baskets spare for stuff like bike locks, crampons, torches, swimming goggles etc - small, outdoor kit.

We found a big old French oak wardrobe which we bought from France really cheaply for the hall. DH put a shelf each in on the left for hats, another on the right for shoes and the middle doors have loads of hanging space for coats, top shelf for picnic baskets etc and school bags on the bottom. It's tidied up the hall so much!

Beachhutgirl · 26/10/2024 09:43

I have a small drawer unit in the hall. Realistically in my house things will only get put away if they have a home in the most convenient place possible, otherwise they just end up dumped in the hall. Drawers in the hall was a game changer.

We have a unit with small cupboards. One for sun lotions/repellents one for torches/binoculars one for hats and gloves, one for small balls/nerf/dog poo bags/leads two each for shoes. Also a big ottoman that stores walking boots/gaiters/waterproof trousers. So much tidier.
