I can't believe I'm asking such a boring question but - mops - talk to me

We haven't had one for years as I can't stand the sloppiness of them, but we have wooden floors throughout and I am sick of cleaning them on my hands and knees.
Is there some kind of magic mop that will make life easier for me?

yes

this will change your life

littleducks · 28/03/2008 10:58

Will watch this with interest as i buy mops that break or then never have spare heads in stock anywhere when i need them so i end up with a new mop again, dh thinks i am addicted!

Swedes · 28/03/2008 10:58

DO you ever watch the Phonejacker? Because your OP reminds me of Terry Tibbs.

MrsBadger · 28/03/2008 10:59

Capp is right

I however am a cheapskate and tie a cheap microfibre cloth over a normal sponge mop

Cappuccino · 28/03/2008 11:01

MrsB I got mine from the bargain shop for £1.99

I wouldn't buy it from Lakeland but I don't think Primark lives around 'ere

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/03/2008 11:17

What bargain shop? Point me towards it.

where are you?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/03/2008 11:35

I've ordered the lakeland one. Too lazy.

I have become obsessed with mops lately in my quest for clean floors.
I've got a bucket and a vileda supermocchio one but it's such a hassle to fill up the bucket, plunge, squeeze, mop ect.

Then I got a great mop from Kleenezee, it's got a tank that you fill up with whatever you clean your floors with, attach a cloth onto the end and on the handle it's got a spray so the liquid sprays onto the floor and you mop.
Brilliant idea, loved it but it broke on the third day so I sent it back.

Now, for quick cleaning, I bought a bottle of Dettol spray and mop floor cleaner that you squirt straight onto floor (no need to rinse) and got a sponge head mop that I just mop it with.
It's brilliant and when the dettol stuff runs out just fill it up with ordinary diluted dettol-much cheaper.

And yes, I don't have a life apart from mopping.

AnotherFineMess · 28/03/2008 22:15

Ha! Good question. I too will watch with interest because if I have to scrape another sodding rice crispie off my dining room floor with my own fingernail I will do a major flounce to an exotic country where they don't have said cereal.

PotPourri · 28/03/2008 22:19

Ooooh, am loving all these cleaning threads recently (nesting). I recently got a morrisons own mop, it is really huge, and made of a nice cloth- cut-up-like material. It squeezes out really well in a mop bucket. I have wooden floors throughout and find it cleans really well, and not too wet. The best bit, when it gets a bit mucky looking you can twist it off and put it in the washing machine with normal washing and it comes out good as new.

Yes, I am sad sad sad. But I blame my pregnancy nesting - what's you lot's excuse?

Prufrock · 28/03/2008 22:23

And get a robomop. I recommended them on a thread the other day and since then lots of other mumsnetters have bought them and all have been positive so far.

Prufrock · 28/03/2008 22:25

I have the lakeland one as well btw - I robomop every day, and normally just wet mop once a week (well, cleaners do) all through, and in the kitchen at the end of the day of tehre are dog paw prints

WendyWeber · 28/03/2008 22:26

I find a large microfibre cloth pushed around with a foot works quite well...(helps to have a trainer on as the sole grips nicely)

AnotherFineMess · 28/03/2008 22:30

Prufrocks - you have cleaner (s) multiple?!?

Prufrock · 28/03/2008 22:44

Only because they work together. 2 of them come for 2 hours on a Tuesday (so 4 hours in total) and I have a big house, 2 dogs and 2 kids so they don't even manage to do everything.

ScienceTeacher · 29/03/2008 12:17

I use a Flash powermop for day to day cleaning. It is fairly effortless.

readytoswiggin · 29/03/2008 12:28

How good is the robomop/any others for getting into corners? got lots of fiddly corners in my kitchen which i have just done on hand and knee.

nb, is fab for getting babies into launch position though!

Cappuccino · 29/03/2008 13:48

I was just in B&Q and they have microfibre mops

I am having an exciting Saturday as you can tell

bobsyouruncle · 29/03/2008 13:50

I've got the flash powermap, quick & easy.

bobsyouruncle · 29/03/2008 13:50

powermop

mysonsmummy · 29/03/2008 13:58

i got the vileda flat wooden mop. it was £10 in woolworths and loos the same as the lakeland one. great that it goes in washing machine though

Carameli · 31/03/2008 11:14

I recently got an e-cloth mop system from john lewis and its brilliant. Its very much like the lakeland one that is mentioned about just uses e-cloths instead.

e-cloth mop

Oooh, I have to have a robomop!! We have nothing but hard floors downstairs and they never seem clean! What a great idea!
