Tidy up before cleaner arrives

Please can I ask if your cleaner would do (...or you think she would do) the following, without a specific request;

Pick up any dirty cups or plates around house and put in dishwasher

Clean the kitchen bin (ie the lid and around the top where scum collects)

Move the dining chairs to hoover the carpet underneath

Open the curtains if she were cleaning a room

Refill loo rolls

Remove loo rolls if they've run out of loo roll

If shoes falling off shoe rack in the hall straighten then

Neaten piles of papers etc

Strip the beds (for the cleaner to make them)

Wipe down a baby changing table

The reason I ask is as I spend a long time tidying before our cleaner arrives and I am just wondering if this is normal...

Thank you!

We tidy round, make or strip the beds, clear the worktops, load the dishwasher and generally get rid of clutter before the cleaner comes. She would do it by I’d rather she actually cleans and her imminent arrival each week makes us get on with it tbh. It makes us notice the benefit much more

Myohmywonderful · 12/03/2024 17:40

I would expect to do most of those things before the cleaner arrives so they have time to actually clean rather than tidy.

Quitelikeit · 12/03/2024 17:40

Surely you don’t pull the chairs out for her?! That is definitely something you could expect, you should also expect surfaces to be cleaned

and odd bits of rubbish picked up

my cleaner doesn’t take the dishes down

Nor wipe the bin lid but I’m generally happy.

It is a pain the night before rushing around to make sure everything is tidied but I’d rather tidy than clean

IHeartKingThistle · 12/03/2024 17:40

Ours would do the bits that were actual cleaning but not the tidying stuff. I don't think that's their job. We do end up doing a lot of tidying the night before but I like the routine of that, I'm just grateful I don't have to hoover or scrub my shower screen!

I don’t want to waste my money on the cleaner tidying rather than cleaning. I hate cleaning! We always both tidy around the night before so the cleaner can get on with cleaner. Ours will strip the bed though and pull out chairs to clean. I wouldn’t expect or want them to do washing up.

My cleaner would tidy to the extent she needs to dust and vacuum and dust/polish/wipe surfaces etc.

Ive briefed her not to worry about bins and beds.

crazycatladie · 12/03/2024 19:55

Cleaner here, I don't have to tidy up for my customers, they tidy i clean. They all tidy up the night before. I've never been asked to do beds. I clean the bin and move chairs when vacuuming, I don't move paperwork in case I mess it up as it might be in a particular order. I'd get rid of old loo rolls and put shoes on a rack.

Yes I tidy, as it's easier for the cleavers to clean the house if it's tidy.

Though, the kids might not open their curtains or make their bed so they would do that. I make my bed every morning anyway.

If they find cups/glasses in the kids rooms then they bring them downstairs and put them in the dishwasher.

They also empty the bins (kitchen/bedrooms/bathrooms) and clean the bin lids if they have lids.

I tend to strip the beds and leave the bedding out for them to make as then I can get it in the washing machine quicker. But if I asked them to also strip the beds then they would do that too.

I tell the kids to tidy their rooms the night before the cleaners come and I put away any clutter. I also make sure there's no washing up (clean stuff) on the draining board so they can clean it more easily. Though I have forgotten and they have put it away for me, or just moved it to the side if they weren't sure what cupboard it lived in.

I wouldn’t expect my cleaner to do any of that without instruction, save perhaps the dirty crockery one. I do a big tidy before mine comes and make sure it’s easy to clean as much as possible, I shove all of the kids toys that are out on the floor (Lego sets etc) onto their beds, make piles of stuff so it’s easy to clean around etc.
