How to remove clothes dye that transfered to radiator?

Hi!

I need help removing stains left on my white radiator!

The discoloration happened after my jacket fell on the radiator, but when I noticed, it was already too late.

I've tried several cleaning products, but no results..

I'd be thankful if you could help me resolve this problem without me having to paint it over..

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried wiping with a magic eraser?

NinaWhiteRadiatorStain · 23/02/2024 02:09

Haven't tried that yet, but I don't know if that's even available in my country..
I'm thinking about using nail polish remover, but I would't like to remove white paint from radiator either..

Alcohol removes most things. Try rubbing it with an alcohol-soaked cloth then, if needed, leave the re-soaked cloth on the stain with cling film over it to delay evaporation.

If you can get pure alcohol where you live, use it. If you can't, hand sanitiser (70%) is better than vodka (40%).

It's always worth trying bleach for things like this, too. Don't use nail polish remover, it will damage the paint.

Thanks for the advice!
I'm gonna try hand sanitiser and if that doesn't work, I'm going to try bleach.
Bleach wouldn't remove paint, right?

No, it won't. Good luck!

Update:
Bleach didn't work :(

Maybe hydrogen peroxide?

Or failing that, do you have any very mild scouring powder like Bar Keepers Friend?

You could try a paste of baking soda and water on a microfiber cloth first to see if a very mild abrasive would work.

White toothpaste might work, if you rub it well.

The magic erasers are great. Depending on where you see they have different names - melamine sponge, magic eraser, melamine foam...
Melamine foam is sold in big box DIY stores as pipe insulation.

Bon Ami scouring powder would work similar to Barkeepers Friend.

Another thing you might try is TSP - trisodium phosphate. There's an eco version available. It's a product designed to clean walls to orep for painting.
