Goodness Octavia - I love your list. It sounds organised anyway even if you say its not always like that!

I've a really bad neck which affects my right arm, so I do find housework a real burden. I hoover when I need to - I've a Henry vacuum which has a lead on it that means I only have to plug it in once and I can do all downstairs, and the same upstairs. Floors mopped when I'm able to do - but will try to keep kitchen floor clean. DS usually cleans the bathroom floor when he's in the bath - loads of splashing!! Bathrooms (x3) are wiped down everyday after use. Dishwasher filled and emptied daily, but usually go to bed with sink filled of dinner dishes to go in in the morning.

I like a tidy house and prefer not to have too much clutter about, but my house is not like that! I need to do a de-clutter! God Octavia, you're really silently persuading me into doing something!

AbbeyA · 26/03/2008 22:18

I think that I am a slut then!
I don't have a routine-I would find it much too boring. We are reasonably tidy but I do things when I think they need doing. I would much rather have a good clean every so often. I follow the line of an aquaintance who, when asked about housework, said "it is not my priority at the moment". I am not sure that it ever will be!

octavia · 27/03/2008 21:34

I'm glad some of you are finding my list useful Some people work well with a routine and others don't,people must do what ever suits them.I did work as a cleaner for a while (needed the money for ds ) so I do find it easy to stick to at home ,except I don't get paid for it!

Shell001 · 27/03/2008 23:30

And where are the babies when this is happening ? or are they all grown ..

cheesesarnie · 28/03/2008 10:35

pardon?

AbbeyA · 28/03/2008 13:30

I think Shell001 is making the point that it is better to spend time with DCs but I might be putting words in her mouth-so apologies if wrong.

octavia · 29/03/2008 05:41

Shell001 my babies (3mths) and my son (8) are very well looked after thank you very much. You do as much as you can while everyone is settled doing something else. The whole idea of my routine is so I keep on top of things and everyone in my family are happy. You can do whatever you want.
Cheesesarnie Hope everything is going well for you

lizziemun · 29/03/2008 06:36

Octavia

My routine is the same as yours. Well was untill i had dd2 who is very demanding. But now she is nearly 7mths i'm getting back into routine.

I find it helps my state of mind, i start getting stressed and a bit depressed isn't tidy.

For what it worth I have no probelm with dd's toys everywhere during the day but when they have gone to bed i don't want to be surrounding with mess.

As my mum would say a house is spotless, but a home is clean and tidy.

octavia · 29/03/2008 06:39

I agree Lizzie,as I've said my house is never tidy,It can't be with dh,3 children and a newfie dog can it!I don't spend all day cleaning either, just the begining and the end of the day really.

No sorry just read thread i was meaning how do you do this all with young babies or are they older as i cant seem to have much time to get one job done ..

wasnt being rude sorry if it looked that way ..

its great routine ..

Shell001 · 29/03/2008 22:15

My dishwasher / washing machine and trumble dryer is in outer house proberly why!

eekamoose · 30/03/2008 17:42

Well, I'm late to this thread now but incase it makes anyone feel better, here is my s0-called cleaning "routine":

I do dishwasher and washing machine every day.

Clean down kitchen work surfaces as I go.

Properly mop kitchen floor once a week, sweep it in between every few days.

Clean the two loos and sinks properly once a week. Otherwise just deal with skid marks and splashes as and when.

Hoover living room and playroom once a week. Under sofa kitchens every other week.

Hoover kids bedroom once a week.

Change sheets fairly often but certainly not more than once a fortnight.

EVERYTHING ELSE: as and when. Most dusting, stair hoovering, inside window cleaning, fridge cleaning etc takes place in the run-up to visits from my mum or the inlaws.

Have my oven professionally cleaned once a year! Costs £50.

We used to be able to afford a cleaner who came for 3 hours. I make sure I do no more than I ever expected her to do weekly. After all, I also do 50% of the tidying, 90% of the diswasher duties and 100% of the washing, hanging, folding etc in this house.

Am just not prepared to slave over housework as I do not enjoy it.

eekamoose · 30/03/2008 17:44

sofa kitchens = sofa cushions!

cheesesarnie · 30/03/2008 20:34

Shell001-how old is your little one/little ones?i used to do everything with them in slings when they were tiny!now i wait till theyre distracted or they help.mine are 7,6 and 2.even the 2 year old loves to help!
hes better than me!

OP posts:
Shell001 · 31/03/2008 23:05

DS is nearly 7 months .. i seem to have a mad 10 minutes and get things straight but dishwasher/washing machine and tumble outside so hard to pop out when DS is awake which is most of the time.

I get little ironing done when in his jumper but its hard to give anything a good hour on as never get that time.

I do like a perfect house.

Sling sounds good but i think abit too late for introducing that one ..

cheesesarnie · 01/04/2008 12:22

no not too late at all!ds2 was in an ergo till about 1.5 years old!if not bit older and hes chubby man and im 5"2 and 6 stone!if i can carry a toddler so can anyone!

OP posts:
cheesesarnie · 01/04/2008 12:23

btw i chucked my ironing board out!it took up too much room and never got used!so if i look creased i just say oh ive been playing on floor with children i am a slob!

OP posts:
Shell001 · 01/04/2008 23:26

They do take up alot of room ..

i need a bigger house to hide it i think ..

i may give it a try then with the sling

cheesesarnie · 03/04/2008 14:30
