Recommend me a new vacuum cleaner?

I'm sure it's been asked a million times, but can't see anything recently.

I currently have a Dyson ball pet. It picks up OK but it's heavy and it's a pain in the arse trying to do the stairs. I've managed to split the hose part (again) but I need something new really.

I have mainly wooden floors downstairs and mainly carpet (except bathrooms) upstairs. I have a cat that sheds. I need something strong and light. Happy to empty more often if that's the compromise. I also want to be able to vacuum blinds etc too. And if it's got decent tools for my car then even better.

I'm looking for the holy grail and I can't afford top dollar or to make a mistake. Currently splitting with DH so I'll generously offer him the Dyson... 😂

There is one word on Hoovers and it’s Sebo. I had three Dyson’s all broke then saw sense. I love mine so much! Cost about as much as a dyson and mine has been going for years.

Copperoliverbear · 12/02/2024 22:56

I love Sebo but they're heavy.
I have just ordered a cordless Dyson for when I want a quick whizz around. X

BigBoysDontCry · 12/02/2024 22:57

I'm on my 2nd Dyson in 20 odd years so I can't really complain. I have already replaced the hose once though.

I'll take a look at Sebo, I've never heard of them. Is there a particular model you'd recommend?

Can't cope too well with heavy anymore, getting old... Actually I've not been that well and not really back to full strength and just find trying to balance the heavy Dyson upright on the stairs while trying to use it is getting too much. The hose only reaches about 2 thirds of the way up and that's basically how I've split it by trying to get another step out of it.

I've just got this and it's brilliant the long hose and cord is great, was fed up with my cordless always running out and my corded Shark I spent a fortune on has had one issue after another. There's a bit you slide at the bottom to change from thick carpets to thin/floor. https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9406117

As a cleaner I recommend Sebo , yes they are a bit heavy . I have the x7 , however it’s is the best hoover out there . Everyone raves about the Shark . But in all honesty yes they are just average and that’s all I’m going to rate them as . They start off well and then they don’t pick up and you waste time trying to make it magically work again . The Sebo is easily maintainable , the quality is exceptional . There are obviously different models of the Sebo . But that is the one I have and use on a daily basis . No it’s not the most attractive of cleaners and no not the lightest , however the weight is at the bottom and not like the Shark for example, the Lift Away where it’s heaviest at the top as that is where the motor is and that for me makes it heavier to manoeuvre . Cord length is short on the Sharks too . Dyson well plenty of blockages , over hyped and generally a poor clean and as you say the hose is generally a problem .

I've just bought a Miele cat and dog (as I hated Henry with a f**king passion)

I hoover twice a week now (as before maybe once a month?! 🤪)

Had a Dyson years ago, hated that too 😂

whirlyhead · 14/02/2024 06:32

I used to have a miele cat and dog which could not cope with my animals and blew up after a year. My Henry has been going forever but lord it is heavy! I now have a little karcher as well which is a heck of a lot lighter. The cord isn’t long enough though. Henry’s cord goes around my house about twice…

how about a robot cleaner?

ArrestHer · 14/02/2024 06:36

Miele cat and dog here. Ours is about 15 years old and still better than the shark we tried (for weight) and also the Dyson (again for weight). I know my Miele is heavy but it’s in wheels so it’s only getting until the stairs that’s a pain other wise I tow it about like a suctioning dog behind me

Thank you, I've not taken the plunge yet, life intervened...

I'll take a look as I still need to get this sorted out.

Miele Dog and Cat. We've had one for years (10-20 I'd guess) whereas previous ones lasted a couple of years. The Miele one is brilliant and actually sucks up pet hairs. A brilliant piece of kit. Can't say it's lightweight, but it's manageable to move round the house OK.

Lonelycrab · 01/03/2024 10:21

Miele are really good. Little heavy but amazing power.
