How many T-shirts does a 2.5 yo girl need ...?

We are reorganising our clothes storage, having finally got round to building wardrobes in both bedrooms.

I've just been through DD2's drawer and found 31 T-shirts

In my defence, most of them have been foisted on us - sorry, kindly passed on - by friends with older children. But I seriously need to get rid of some, don't I.

So seriously - how many "good" and how many "scruffy" T-shirts do you reckon a 2-3 year old needs?!

Have no idea how many they actually need, my dc's have loads, a stupid amount tbh. When I sort out I just keep the ones that are 'good' and ones that I'd want them to wear when we're out. Though they do have a few 'home' clothes for when they're just at home and no one will see them!!

Sorry if that hasn't answered your question at all!!

No idea - i have 4 kids and too much washing - a scary amount and i cant keep on top of it.
My new solution is to throw away (well charity) loads of clothes - less clothes = less washing .
My 2.8 yr old dd has 12 tops - but we dont have nice and scruffy tops - my kids wear all clothes all the time some nicer than others, but no 'best' clothes, as i cant stand to spend £30 on a nice dress (for eg) and it is only worn 4 times.
ds 5yrs and ds 7 mo have an insane amount of clothes ands i never want to throw ds1 away as ds2 can wear them later.

Anyhoo - what a lot of rambling, 12 tops seems to work well - i am rarely down to less than 3 in the cupboard so she always has something to wear!

DD has nowhere near that many t-shirts and she is the queen of excess clothing. I find actually that t-shirts are not handed down as much - I think they go out of shape, stained etc quite easily. And it is winter so DD is only wearing t-shirts with cardigans.

I imagine she must have 30-odd tops, mind you if you include t-shirts, long sleeved tops, jumpers and blouses but not tank tops and cardigans which need something under. Will creep in and count.....

29 plus whatever is in the wash. And we are not nearly up to date with the washing.

So glad I'm not the only one!

Think I'll be brave and whittle it down to a dozen, plus one or two really good ones that will be kept for special events. Still shocked at how many we've managed to accumulate. I really am NOT into buying lots of clothes!

About a dozen, but that then gives me leeway to iron once a week!

amytheearwaxbanisher · 23/03/2008 22:45

keep one or two scruffy ones for painting and other messy things a dozen decent ones should do mabey one or two more with summer coming in

madamez · 23/03/2008 22:47

Depends how messy a kid she is, really. I like to have at least 7 of everything so as to not have to wash DS stuff more than once a week.

31 T-shirts is a lot but how about 25 pairs of trousers aged 3-6 months for my 4 mo old dd? None of them bought by us either - all handed on.

I reckon she'll be able to wear each pair 4 or 5 times before she grows out of them!

Smithagain · 24/03/2008 08:48

That's it Anna - it's lovely when people hand things on to us, but somehow it's built up to a ridiculous level. Am beginning to get better at saying "no thanks, we don't have the space".

LOL at 25 trousers for a 4mo - you need to draw up a rota so they all get used!
