Last minute visitors - where to focus cleaning/tidying??

We have last minute visitors this weekend. Realistically I'll have only a couple of hours to tidy/clean - what should I focus on?

The house is generally a bit cluttered and needs a good clean (things like skirting boards, shelves are dusty etc). I have a robot vacuum so can set that off, it's just the other bits I need to prioritise.

What do you notice most when you go to others houses?

bathroom and dust.

Get some big bag for life bags or ikea blue bags and quickly fill them with all the clutter. Put them in your car boot if you’ve nowhere else.

Open some windows.

Blitz the bathroom.

Bleach the toilets.

Dust surfaces.

Set the hoover going.

Fill the fruit bowl / get flowers.

Spray room freshener / light a candle.

Then, when they’ve gone sort through the bags of stuff and either put it away or charity/bin it.

(says me, whose house is currently a right mess!)

  1. BATHROOM (toilet & sink!!!) specially any bathroom you will designate for them to use during their visit. Make sure you provide a clean, fresh towel for them to dry their hands with. Nothing worse than drying your hands with many days old dirty towels.
  2. Ensure that the seating in your home is clear and clean. So make sure your couches don’t have stuff over them (laundry) and that your guest can have a seat if they wish. If you have cushions on your couches, fluff them!!
  3. Dinning table CLEAR and cleaned.
  4. Entry way to your home (like mud room or hallway) vacuumed and tidy.
  5. kitchen is also important… give your range a wipe and try to organize counters.

happy hosting!

Toilets

Shine your taps and mirrors and you can basically get away with the rest of the bathroom being unclean.

Kitchen and bathroom!

Generally tidy up any clutter as much as you can.
Kitchen / dining table and fridge.
Bathroom - loo, sink, bathroom/shower clean and clean towels.

Clean sinks and toilets and put fresh towels out. Clear surfaces in kitchen, Hoover all floors.

What pps said. But no air fresheners. They are headache-inducing and give the impression you’re covering something up.

Don't do that. That's procrastination.

Just start.
