Vacuum pack a king size duvet

Hi everyone. Just wondered if anyone has ever vacuum packed a duvet to store it after having it cleaned. I read that it’s not advisable to do this with a feather duvet but mine is a fairly expensive cotton 13.5 tog duvet with a polyester filling. I usually change my duvet once a year (don’t have a winter and summer one) just the one, and buy another to replace it. I thought I would have it cleaned at the dry cleaners (won’t fit in my washing machine) and store it to save me some money and I could use it again.

In the olden days, before duvets and we used blankets, I suppose people had a blanket box in the bedroom (I think I remember my mum did) but I don’t have room for one in my fitted bedroom. I would be interested to hear, if you store your bedding, how do you do this? There are only two of us, so I store my three sets in the drawers under the bed. Don’t have a linen cupboard in the bathroom.

We have 2 superking size beds and store the spare duvet for each vacuum packed and put at the back of the built in wardrobe in the spare room. Has always seemed fine when we’ve taken them out to swap to summer/winter duvet. Can be a bit of a bugger to get the winter ones squished in the bags, but they do fit in eventually. Better work out than the gym!

I think the issue with a Feather duvet is that the feathers will be damaged and lose their lofting potential if vacuum packed for any length of time.

I think a polyester filling would be fine.

@Auntiesitting @Tremblingmadness Thank you very much for your replies.

@Tremblingmadness Yes, I read too that the feathers could be damaged and that a polyester filling should be Ok, so I’m going to chance it.

@Auntiesitting Can I ask, do you clean/wash your duvets before storing? Mine isn’t a super king, just a king. Does the duvet compress smaller when you vacuum pack? Could I store it in the drawers underneath the bed, do you think? I have very limited storage space in a fairly small bungalow.

What vacuum pack do you use @Auntiesitting.
I have never successfully used them. They always seem to fill with air and spread out eventually ☹️
