Title says it all really.....plus any ideas on how to keep her from doing this? She uses the same spot each time at the moment but I'm thinking that is because I can't get the smell out of the carpet

anyone want a cat ??????????????

Our cat pee'd on a duvet once. Smell never came out. Never tried bicarb though. You can get some spray that stops them scratching stuff, that might work?

queenofthedumbquestion · 21/03/2008 22:22

I think that should be peed

Strong-ish solution of biological washing powder dissolved in water. MUST be bio powder - it's the enzymes that get rid of the smell. Spray liberally until you can smell the difference.

Unfortunately, I think it's very hard to stop cats widdling in certain places once they've established a preferred spot. You could try spraying her with water if you actually catch her at it?

DO NOT using anything containing ammonia.

Her urine contains ammonia (the smell) which marks the spot she needs to go back to. If you use a cleaning fluid containing ammonia you are just strengthening the mmonia and mark ing hte spot more intensly.

Tried Bicarb (loads) but had no effect for her. I could still smell it a little so she must have been able to smell it a lot.

Will try the bio washing powder. At the moment I have chucked an entire tub of shake n vac on it but pretty sure that won't work, just mask the smell for a short while.

Can't catch her at it - she is a sneaky creature

You the the "Simple" cat urine / smell remover from Petsathome - it's fantastic!

You need the "Simple" cat urine / smell remover from Petsathome - I tried washing carpets & lots of shake & vac, zoflora or whatever it's called etc etc. & nothing worked until I tried this! Brilliant stuff

salsmum · 21/03/2008 22:50

AFTER CLEANING THE AREA WITH BIO SOAP POWDER NEXT TIME THE CATS IN PUT A SPRINKLE OF VINEGAR DOWN, NOT TOO MUCH BECAUSE A CATS SENSE OF SMELL IS GREATER THAN OURS, THEY HATE THE SMELL AND WONT RETURN TO THAT SPOT.

saltcod · 21/03/2008 22:51

oh, and she never pee'd on that spot of carpet again. Think it's about £5 or £6 for a bottle of the stuff.

BigBadMouse · 21/03/2008 23:06

Arghhh...no online petsathome store. Nearest one is nearly 50 miles from us - sounds like good stuff though so will see if I can pick one up next time I am nearby. In the meantime it sounds as though I need some bio washing powder and vinegar... and a new home for puss-cat

I bought some brilliant stuff from the vet - it's called Vet Remedy Total odour and stain remover.

Can't find it online to link unfortunately, but might be worth trying your local vet.

clear vinegar. As soon as you can after she pees. and really soak the patch. worked a treat.
