Samsung washing machine smelling

Hi all,
Need help with my Samsung Washing machine, which recently is not washing well. everything smells musty constantly. I have done all the filters I can find, I have run it with vinegar and shop bought washing machine cleaner (Dettol and cheap B&M stuff) Tried lemon juice but not a proper lemon though. Has anyone one got any more tips. It's not old, from 2019. I have also run the drum cleaning programme!

I have two teenagers, one of which is still in secondary with his horrible polyester jumpers and blazers and I can't wash them in 90 as they would go to threads!!

Help

It's probably a plumbing issue if you've done all that cleaning.

Check the outlet pipe. We used smol capsules for a while and they clogged up our outlet pipe as they didn’t dissolve fully. We had a terrible smell until we found that was the problem. Make sure you run the hot empty wash when it asks for it too.

Do you use washing pods?
Check rubber rim between the door and drum mine gets covered in in buildup and I have to regularly clean it.

What detergent are you using?
Powders are better for the drum as they contain bleaches that help keep it clean. Liquids and pods don't have these bleaches

Try another hot run through with some good old fashioned daz powder (or any other washing powder) and a few old towels that won't mind a boil wash.

have a good scrub round all the seals first with a very small amount of bleach spray and a scrubbing brush.

most of the time washing machine issues are caused by those horrible dissolvable pods/ laundry liquid whatever brand.

Thank you all, I will definitely check the outlet pipe as that sounds like the most probable cause. No idea how to do that but we'll work it out :-) I am using pods atm. Bought the same as MIL as her washing always smells so nice. I think it's Ariel but will buy powder next time. Good suggestion, and yes the pods definitely create gunk in the rubber thingy

I always leave the door open and remove the drawer on my machine, in order to let it dry out.

I found when the drawer was removed mould was visible on the upper surface and the back wall, this has now been scrubbed away with a long handled brush.

Also check the filters as if there is anything in there it won’t drain properly.

BertieBotts · 06/02/2024 08:42

Your outlet pipe needs to go sharply up just after it leaves the machine and then flow downwards to the drain. If you have any other/extra dips, humps or loops in the hose, you'll get waste water pooling there which will start to rot and smell and could wash back into the machine.

This is more of a problem for dishwashers than washing machines but both can have it.
