Do you have a decent dining table? Else, where could we buy nice folding chairs?

H. comes up with these daft ideas... like he wanted a nested table set for years. I didn't care, so he finally bought them -- I hate the ruddy things. We managed fine without them. Now, they get in the way all the time, something else to pack up and shift before I can vacuum, the kids sit on them, and tilt the legs, H. tells them off, they kids do it anyway.

So now H. wants a dining table (folding, extendable type). We have 2 like this already, but they're not good enough (he says). One could be sanded down to look nicer... otherwise, we don't hardly use them, when we do use them we throw a tablecloth on top so you can hardly see what they're like, AND we have 4 DC who are brutal on furniture. I am suggesting we get some 'nice' folding wooden chairs instead (easy to put aside), and then H. can burn the knackered assembly of old dining chairs we currently use (battered, seats falling apart).

Are folding chairs naff? I was thinking of a sturdier version of this.

Or am I missing something? Do you have a decent dining table set, how and how often do you use it? I think another table will just be more clutter and something else for H. to shout at DC about not abusing.

Any suggestions for talking H. out of his dining set dream?

I find folding chair a bit uncomfortable, no back support. How about stacking ones? They would probably take up less floor space than 6 folding chairs.

ikea do quite a few at reasonable prices.

i have a table and chairs set like the ones you linked lljkk i have had it for around 6 years. the chairs arent the most comfortable but i live in a very small flat, previously a small house with no dining room, so folding chairs that stack under the table are very practical for me. we use them everyday to have dinner round and they are still fine, some marks from paiting and arty actitivties but structurallly are still sound . the table is looking a bit tired now, so i just cover it with a table cloth.
have you looked in argos? thats where i got my table and chair set from, they may be cheaper than the john lewis ones

We have this set. It seems pretty indestructable. We don't have room for a permanent dining table so this lives in the kitchen. Most of the time we have one leaf up and the DCs can sit and have breakfast or snacks together, with a couple of sturdier chairs. At dinner time (most nights) we all sit together and pull out the other leaf.

I don't like folding chairs as a rule, but as they go, these seem very sturdy. We've had it about 2 years and it's good as new.

ceolas thats v similar to mine, but the table in your set looks much more solid. when i eventually move into a house if i need to have folding again i'll look into that one.
lol I'm hoping to get somewhere i can have a huge solid farmhouse type table, but that all depends on money i have for a new place, not looking likely at the mo

My dream house has a huge solid farmhouse table too!

Tis but a dream though...

We're very posh here. My dining room has been re-named the drawing room - because that's the only thing it's used for- drawing pictures that is

The table is a state though and whilst I love the idea of smart matching set, it isn't going to happen anytime soon. Like you say just more stress with Dh going on at DC's about not respecting things.

I'd rather have stacking chairs than folding ones.
