I think you can iron it off - place thin paper over it, then iron it.
there is something else, but have forgotten - someone is bound to come up with it soon!

SlartyBartFast · 19/03/2008 21:13

good idea so far

brown paper or a tea towel, low setting on iron, and the wax should melt into the paper or towel

MonkeybirdisboredWITHbuns · 19/03/2008 21:14

freeze first, chip off excess, then iron...

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 19/03/2008 21:14

Brown paper (like what they use for envelopes) or grease proof paper works best.

joyfulspike · 19/03/2008 21:14

I think you use brown parcel paper with a hot, not steam iron and lightly press, the wax then soaks into the paper.

themildmanneredbunny · 19/03/2008 21:14

chip off as much as p[oss, cover with kitchen paper and then iron over.

PotPourri · 19/03/2008 21:14

Use brown paper and iron over. Other option, put in the freezer and crack it off.

God, there's lots going on in the good housekeeping tonight - heaven for my nesting!!

themildmanneredbunny · 19/03/2008 21:15

not grease proof because it's grease proof! it wouldn't absorb the grease!

Candlewax · 19/03/2008 21:16

Gosh! And there was me thinking someone thought I had a brain . Actually, I would put it in the freezer overnight as it will then go really hard, then put brown paper over it and use a low iron. Should do the trick.

SlartyBartFast · 19/03/2008 21:16

and i was thinking of grease proof

off to local shops for some veggies, that should supply a brown paper bag,
hope that does the trick.

Have done this before. They're right. I put a load of kitchen towel under and then a few sheets over. Iron it until wax comes through. Replace kitchen towel, iron again, etc over and over until it's all gone (can take a while, but it really works and the trousers should be fine.

SlartyBartFast · 19/03/2008 21:17

lol candlewax

and thanks,
what an abundance of cross posts, all saying same thing!

Blotting paper is supposed to work well, according to my mother when I got candlewax on my best tablecloth. Only nowhere seems to sell blotting paper any more!

beautifuldays · 19/03/2008 21:22

yes kim and aggie reccommend tea towel

YouKnowNothingOfTheCrunch · 19/03/2008 21:33

Oh and have iron on low setting so you don't burn the fabric (heat will be on it for a while) just keep the iron moving.

glinda · 20/03/2008 08:08

Any ideas for candle wax in a rug? Tried the ironing - but I was told to use newspaper so now I have newsprint in candle was on the rug Help anyone?

PotPourri · 20/03/2008 09:29

Mybe try agin with brown paper, but after that, probably the only thing to be done is carefully snip the carpet back with scissors, or sew on an embelishment/pattern... Good luck!
