Those bits under the arms of DH's shirts - how to rid?

I wash DH's shirts at 40 in non-bio, and they all - even the reasonably new ones - get those nasty hard sweaty bits under the arms that just don't shift with normal washing.

DH is allergic to bio powder. What else can I use to rid us of this unpleasantness - is there an amazing natural remedy like bicarb or vinegar?

Napisan is only bleach isn't it?

Biological washing powder is the answer. The enzymes 'eat' all the crud.

My DH claimed to be allergic to it too, but I've been using it for the last 20 years and he's not noticed yet. I do an extra rinse though on his shirts.

Har har. I will add bio to the list of experiments, and come looking for you if DH comes up in hives

(I did contemplate this. If he's actually allergic, maybe a wash first in bio then again in non-bio?)

Dont bother washing again in non-bio... just put an extra rinse on. [hides thread from DH who says he's allergic but doesnt know I've been putting extra rinse on for last 20 years)

Right, we're on a thirty minute countdown to Phase II results. Here's the test:

IIa - wet crispy bit then rub in Vanish stick
IIb - soak other side's crispy bit in vinegar
IIc - use bio powder on 60C.

Control - second shirt with no additional treatment.

God, I can hardly wait for that cycle to finish.

Oh hurry up washing machine.

Well, the experiment has finished, and quicker than you were expecting, people!

We have a result. And the result is...

... absolutely zip. Nothing. Crispiness is intact.

My conclusions from this rollercoaster of emotion and anticipation are:

  1. Probably wash all shirts in bio right from the start. By the time the crispiness sets in you're doomed.
  1. If the above is not possible, change husband for less sweaty model.

My household hints book (picked up at christmas fair) suggests borax. I keep intending to try it.

Or throw out tshirt.

Dh has a rancid tshirt with sweat patches under one arm and holes under the other.
I have asked him time and time again to chuck and he keeps it just to wind me up.

So the other day he came home to a tshirt with flower patches on.
