Robot vacuum cleaners.. any good?

I've been looking at the Which website for reviews and it seems like unless you pay £500 plus they don't seem to be that good? Does anyone have a cheaper one that they are happy with?

If you've landed here looking for suggestions, we've recently updated our best robot vacuum cleaner page with the products MNers (and MNHQ editors!) love - including lots of budget-friendly options. We hope it's useful!

I've had one for many years, it was £900 at the time i think and its been brilliant.

They need to be well designed and robustly made to do the job of taking all the hassle away and "just working".

I'd caution against buying on price, it may not last or be too much trouble to make it useful. Sounds like Which may be finding the same thing.

ettieb · 20/01/2024 10:24

Thank you.. I think you are right... for a decent one it does seem like it is fairly costly..

I have 3, of the cheaper type and I love them

The oldest one is about 3 years old and the newest we got a few weeks ago

I don’t think any of them were over £200

Oriunda · 20/01/2024 11:24

I've got two. A Roborock which was expensive when I got it years ago, but they're now under £500. Plus an Ikos one which is much cheaper. They're a good investment.

Ifailed · 20/01/2024 11:35

How do they cope with stairs?

queenofthewild · 20/01/2024 12:27

Miele are on offer at the moment. You can pick up a C3 cat and dog for under £300.

Mine is 11 years old and still going strong.

Buy bags when they are on offer though. They are ££)

queenofthewild · 20/01/2024 12:28

Oops. Missed the robot bit.

I'm the robot in this house 😭

OldTinHat · 20/01/2024 12:40

I bought one from amazon for about £120 4yrs ago. It mops the floor as well as vacuums.

I've traded it up for a cleaner and have given 'Rover' (the name I gave it!) to DS. He loves it as much as I did. Only thing with the cheaper ones is that they don't map the floor, they just generally wander about.

froomeonthebroom · 20/01/2024 12:47

We have 2, they weren't expensive. I love them. In a fire I would save them before my children. Only partly joking.

Caspianberg · 20/01/2024 12:47

We have an eufy. It’s about 4-5 years old so not the latest model. But it was £120 on offer, I think they are still under £200.

It’s fine. I don’t really see advantage of a £900 model v this. As I still have to own an actual hoover for the stairs, tight corners, hooking sofa etc. the robot is great for a basic clean, it hoovers all the day to day crumbs and cat hair, toddler mud, but it can’t move my actual furniture or go behind open doors so it misses a good 10% I have to eventually hoover myself.

Our eufy is Low enough it lives under sofa in charge and just comes on automatically every moring at 7am whilst we are still upstairs getting ready

My robot also does my tiny patch of fake grass (great after we had builders in and they made a mess in garden), plus my outside veranda. They’re brilliant.

weasle · 20/01/2024 17:07

There was a good radio piece about this recently. I think they concluded that non robot ones are better.

A robot hoover will light up your life 😃
Mine has a sunny and happy disposition and answers to his name ❤️

I do also use stick cordless in parallel but wouldn't be without my robotic friend.

I have an eufy

😃😃

JMSA · 20/01/2024 17:45

I had a Eufy but it wasn't for me. I used it twice before selling it on. Easier and quicker just to whip out my Miele!

I'd kill for a robot lawnmower though.

jf1992x · 20/01/2024 18:00

I bought a Eufy in the Amazon Black Friday sale and it was £200 I think. It's good! It mops as well which tbh the mop doesn't actually do much other than wet the floor. Certainly doesn't clean it as such but probably fine if your floors as clean anyway. We live on a farm so we need to deep clean our floors pretty much every day!

The vacuum part of it is actually really good and picks up a lot of crap! I like having mine on the turbo max setting but you only get around 30 mins before the battery goes. They're definitely worth the investment I think. I don't reckon you need to spend hundreds and hundreds. The only thing I wish ours had was the room mapping feature as it sometimes misses places! But can't grumble for the price really

Hiddenmnetter · 20/01/2024 20:21

My brother swears by them for just reducing the amount of dust in the house. I want to get one but the babies would smash it up. Maybe in a few years

Rainbowshit · 20/01/2024 20:44

I have two eufys.

They are brilliant. One hoovers and mops the extension. The other is in the main house. I was actually very surprised at how good a job they do.

The mopping is more of a damp cloth wiped over the surface so isn't going to clean a really dirty floor but definitely makes a difference.

Both of them were under £200.

HellonHeels · 20/01/2024 20:49

I've got a bottom of the range Eufy and I really love it. Going strong after 4 years' use.

Its never going to do as good a job as a human with a vacuum cleaner but it's great for doing the main spaces. Also makes me pick up all the stuff off the floor so has a built in tidying function 😀

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 20/01/2024 20:52

I've got a Eufy (Terrence!) who I paid about £120 for. He trundles round on max power and does an amazing job. He's the best thing I've ever purchased.

I still use my stick hoover for stairs, spot cleaning the area around the litter trays etc.

but he goes around daily and does a fab job.

ettieb · 20/01/2024 21:40

Thanks.. that is really useful.. I'm going to get one!

My "Suki" is around 5 years old. As PP, she mainly just does the kitchen/diner for 30 mins a day. She's great.
You still need a stick vacuum for the stairs, the car, the top of the skirting boards and for spider webs on the ceiling.

TotteringByRosie · 20/01/2024 21:56

I have a Eufy 11s Max, it was £140 about 3 years ago. I wouldn't be without it! It's on a timer so gets to work automatically every afternoon. We have dogs and it's brilliant for keeping the floors clean. The dust box is full every day.

Caspianberg · 21/01/2024 07:18

And yes the main bonus of eufy is that it makes you tidier as we make sure no toys or cables or stuff is left on the floor
