Maintenance Washes for washing machine and dishwasher

Hello

Do you do these maintenance cycles?

Is it necessary if I live in Scotland ie have soft water and no limescale?

If you do, do you buy a specific product or use one of those vinegar/bicarb of soda type combos that people use for all cleaning? :-)

Thanks

I don’t have a dishwasher but yes for the washing machine. Every once in a while I will either use Dettol or dr Beckmann washing machine cleaner on a empty hot wash. I am also in a soft water area so limescale is not really the issue, it is more to keep the washing machine smelling fresh and killing germs. I wouldn’t say necessary but certainly something to do think about. I leave the door ajar to prevent a built up of moisture and mould in the machine.

you can use sofa crystals I believe - I can never find them where I live as well as white vinegar.

Hey Brain!

Happy New Year to you.

Yes, I do it once a month for both. A dishwasher tablet in the washing machine on the "Drum clean" program, and in the dishwasher, a Finish dishwasher cleaner bottle on the 75 degree program.

Essential for them, soft OR hard water. Keeps bacterial growth/mould banished!

Hope that helps! X

Thanks both! And happy new year.

Why a dishwasher tablet in the washing machine rather than say laundry powder?

I use Ecozone DW and WM tablets . Hard water here .
I do try to use powder in the WM but some things need Ecover wash liquid ( smells lovely ) I use on dark/black clothes .

My WM does a reminder on the screen, I try to do the first Saturdy in the month for both.

They clear the sludge and residue from detergents so I'd still do even without hard water .

Edited as got name of tablets wrong Blush

Just do a white wash on 90º to achieve the same thing.
