How the heck do I keep this oven clean?

Someone help please! I hate this bloody hob so much and I don't understand how you can keep it clean. (Apologies for the gross pic but I just went to clean it and thought surely someone on MN has a better way...)

The hobs are ceramic (?) and they rust and flake away as you can see next to the bottom right hob. Anytime you move a pan on the hob it's flakes and you can put pans onto the counter without it leaving that black residue from the hob.

Is there something I can do? Scrape it all off and seal it? Or is the oven just crap?

The hob is 3yrs old if that matters

I don't have this type of hob but have seen lots of cleaning TikToks of people using The Pink Stuff on them?

@GallbladderWoes Ah, okay, I'll take a look on Tik Tok as well! Thank you

Also use a blade to scrape off the hard bits, you can get a flat edged one specifically for housekeeping jobs, then any cream paste like Pink Stuff, or Astonish should help get them clean.

It doesn't look ceramic.

It looks like something from the 70's

My hob I've had for 16 years is ceramic and looks like thick glass and is super easy to clean and use

Mirrormeback · 30/12/2023 15:06

Yes you need pink stuff paste or cif

I would try Hob Brite. Very similar to cream cleanser/pink stuff , cheap as chips but really effective. Use with a scouring pad and rinse off with a cloth.

Are the black bits coming off actually part of the hob or are they cooking residue? If the former that sounds like a fault. If it's just never been cleaned with anything abrasive before then there might be a build up which is now flaking off.

I would seriously consider replacing though. A glass ceramic hob or entry level induction would not be that expensive.

Is that ceramic? It looks like the old enamel hob my mum had when I was a child.

I think of ceramic hobs as glass ones. Yours looks like solid rings set into enamelled metal. I would only clean the white surround, not the rings and use Astonish Oven and Cookware cleaner. Widely available, it's amazing. https://astonish.co.uk/products/oven-cookware-cleaner?variant=40254092574899
