Cleaning king size duvet?

Santapaws3 · 27/12/2023 21:44

Just came back from a weekend away visiting family to find my cat has been sick on our bed, it looks like it’s been sitting for a few days whilst we haven’t been there. I’ve managed to get it out of the cover but it’s gone through to the duvet. Duvet cleaning looks expensive but I hate waste so don’t want to just buy another!

Can I spot clean this? Or will it fit in the washing machine? I’ve got a 9kg drum and it’s a 13.5 tog king size, not down. What’s the best way to spot clean it if possible?

The cat is fine btw he’s clearly just scoffed his biscuits too quickly and brought them back up.

Some dry cleaners will also wash duvets. I think yours is too big for a washing machine.

Mine goes in my washing machine

We have been in the same boat, we have a dog and had this once, During the summer we buy thin king Duvets easy to wash at home and store (thanks to sweat and paws.) Our winter duvet we take to a dry cleaner before it goes back into storage so deffo Google dry cleaners that are local, they can help.

Totally go to a laundrette.

I had this prob and replaced it with two thin ones (that I put in one duvet cover). I can wash them if needed as they are thin.

My cat is forever being g sick in my duvet. I spot clean it. With Dr Beckmann. I tried a waterproof cover. But it was like sleeping in a crisp packet. So got rid. I'll just buy a new one at some point. But since the next one will also be puked on. I'm in no hurry!

Our 4.5 tog kingsize duvet fits in our 6kg machine. I'd imagine yours would fit too - thicker duvet but bigger machine.

I've had exactly the same when we had a puppy. Our duvet didn't fit in our 9kg machine. You have a few options:

  • Lay it in a bath and spot wash/scrub it in there
  • Take to a laundrette, but check the prices first. Unless its a machine where you add the coins yourself, it can end up costing more than just buying another duvet!

Mine cost about £30 at the dry cleaner. My summer duvet (3.5tog) fits in my washing machine, but not the 9.5tog winter one. (King size.)

Took my super king duvet to a Revolution machine in a garage forecourt recently, £11 for a wash in the big machine and then £2.50 for 15 mins if high heat dry time, I ended up needing 45 mins so cost me £18.50 for a full wash and dry.

Local self service launderette (which had been closed on the day I needed it done) was £10 for the wash and dry as my Mum took her king duvet the following week for a refresh, having been inspired by me!

Thanks everyone, I didn’t know about the service station launderettes! Managed to spot clean it in the bath but had to run it under the tap to get the detergent out so have taken it there to put in their big dryer. Means I can escape the house for half an hour as well!
