Constant need to tidy

I can't relax unless the house is tidy, which is almost impossible with a dh, 3 year old and 10 month old. Clutter or mess doesn't have the same effect on dh as me so he doesn't understand my need for everything to be put away. Kids are in bed and I'm sat watching a film but all I want to do is put away the toys that didn't get put away before I sat down but I also just want to relax! I'm even thinking about what needs to be done upstairs and how I can organise all the kids toys better. Why can't I switch off from it?!

I don't know, but I feel very sorry for you, and particularly for your dh.

I couldn't sit and watch a film with toys everywhere , I used to have wicker baskets to swoop everything away in so the front room was less like a nursery at the end of the day.

Team TOMM or the organised mum method on Facebook. She started the system as she was in a similar situation. The idea is that you do a set (timed) amount each day and the house is relatively clean and then you say I've done enough.

Why do you need to switch off? I'm the same but we all tidy up after ourselves so it's not all left to me. We don't have a big house so lots of clutter is just annoying. Everything has its place and it goes back there when we've finished with it. We have regular clear outs so we don't have too much stuff. Our two year old helps tidy up her toys etc before we go out or before bathtime so it doesn't all have to be done after. While I put her to bed my husband does a whip round to finish anything else off, or vice versa. I don't think tidyness is anything to be ashamed of, you just need good systems in place and everyone on board then it really is very little bother to maintain.
