I'm in a mid 60s 3 bed semi with double glazing from the late 90/.

Not sure whether to get this one or a bigger Meaco.

Does anyone have this Meaco Dehumidifier?

Mine arrived yesterday, it said to let it stand for 6 hrs DDO I left it overnight. Just switched it on, and it gave a humidity reading of 88 - preset target is 55!!
I'll let you know how it goes.

@Dexterwontstopfarting
it is so satisfying emptying the dehumidifier ! Especially In the first few days of use, mind you the novelty still hasn’t worn off for me after two years 😹

Well, so far I'm very happy with it. We only have an issue in the one room, so I think the size is fine for us - though with hindsight I'd go for the bigger one.
The windows cleared in about 45 minutes (I usually use my Karcher window vac for this) and the tank is now (since 10am) half full.
I haven't yet put in the hepa filter to purify the air (one came free with it) but will try this as my DH has developed some breathing issues and so hopefully it may help him.
Would recommend!

How big are they? We had dehumidifier a decade ago. It was huge, heavy and only removed 1 litre a day

Anjo2011 · 28/12/2023 19:17

We have this one, used in a small shower room that doesn’t have great ventilation . The ceiling started to look damp but since having this it’s dry as a bone and no sign of moisture. We leave it on whilst shower is being used and maybe for an hour afterwards. Needs emptying probably every other day. It’s perfect for our needs.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 28/12/2023 19:19

We have the 25l one in a 3 bed 3 storey house. Keep it on the middle floor, and mostly use it to dry washing. It goes a few days without emptying if its been on constantly.

@Anjo2011
this time of year I love a very hot shower, when I’ve finished the whole shower room is steaming so I plug the unit in the hallway, move it in shower room and it’s reading 99% humidity in there but by two hours it’s down to 45% not a trace of water any where, tile all dry and shower glass wall. Amazing I suppose it’s working optimum at the warmth in the room. Wouldn’t be without mine, legitimately one of my best purchases ever. I hate to think I am living in damp, plus it smells.

@DyslexicPoster
mines the small low energy unit, the Meaco 12litre one, I’ve posted the photo earlier in the thread, for a small flat. Lightweight and had great extraction, she never stops working

glad you are happy with it😀the HEPA filters are I think £30 for two from Meaco but they last a while, I don’t bother with mine after I used the free one but I’m sure they’re good fir clearing the air. I remember it did go very grey but I was living in a different property then

I have the Meaco Zambezi dessicant type - expensive, but worth every penny in my opinion! My cottage is unheated, apart from a woodburner, 4 bedroom and largely open plan. The Zambezi is a dessicant type which works better at lower temperatures and actually generates a little warmth as it works. I am astonished at how much moisture it removes from the air and, in laundry mode, it is very efficient at drying laundry. Thoroughly recommend, but, as said, expensive and not on castors, but not too heavy to move around, provided the water receptacle is empty

Dexterwontstopfarting · 29/12/2023 10:37

It's been on overnight, and woke up to NO condensation on the windows, the walls were bone dry and loads of water in the tank! It's amazing to think how much moisture there is in a room that, to all intents and purposes, is dry.
DH is also impressed, and confessed to me that he thought it was a gimmick. Ha! Fool.
Well worth the money, I feel.

userxx · 29/12/2023 21:49

About love mine, got it to dry the laundry and it is so much better than I expected.

CoffeeMad18 · 01/01/2024 18:18

I have this one and the green/white Meaco 20l one. They are both on castors and can both dry washing overnight. 12l needs to be emptied before and after. The 20l one I have has a timer but this 12l doesn't.

OldTinHat · 04/01/2024 15:05

My 12L arrived today. I'm amazed at how much water was in the tank after just two and a half hours.

I think this might be my new best friend!

I know! Are you using it to dry clothes or keep the house damp free ? I’m so glad I bought it as drying clothes in winter was a nightmare.
