Pee on my ceiling?

Well, surely not! But what is it?

I have been having a lot of bathroom ceiling mould problems since my DBF moved in. Always a bit of mould in the winter but now very bad. I am thinking of scraping off the paint and starting again. The other day I bleached and scrubbed the paint, it looks much better but still a bit stained.

This morning I go into the bathroom and it looks like yellow/orange droplets of pee on the ceiling? Dripping into the bath (I was confused and then noticed the ceiling). Would bleach do this? I do everything right for the bathroom but it just doesn’t dry much because my bf showers frequently because of his culture

He just needs to have the window open when in the shower to let the steam out.

It looks like water is condensing on the ceiling and dripping off, leaving the stains. It reminds me of washing walls/ceilings before painting in a house where people smoked. Does someone smoke in your house, or is there some other reason that you get brown/yellow residue? Smoke from cooking?
I’d suggest getting a dehumidifier to use in the bathroom. I’ve got a Meaco abc 10 litre which was about £100 and keeps the bathroom free of damp.

I think that is just condensation and where a smoker has been in the house.

Either that, or it is a downstairs bathroom next to the kitchen with doors open predominantly.

The window is open during showers and I used to leave it open until the bathroom dried. It’s now open most of the time. There is also a dehumidifier in the hallway outside the bathroom.
It does look like nicotine but there are no smokers in the house and it’s not near the kitchen. It’s so odd because I’ve just bleached and scrubbed it so there shouldn’t be stains of any kind 🤔

I live very near the sea so it’s windy and there’s salty air. Seems like pretty much everyone gets mould/damp round here, I spoke to a local shopkeeper about it. But haven’t heard anyone complaining about anything yellow 😆

Leak from above (upper apartment or roofspace).

Sorry for loads of posts but just to add I also have an extractor fan. I’ve tried closing the window and just using the extractor but the bathroom never dried, so now keep the window open

Have you googled yellow mould? Or pink mould? I've got something like your photo growing on a condensationy damp outside wall, it's more orange than pink or yellow but goes away with Bleach spray and a lot of airing.

hedgehoglurker · 29/11/2023 15:11

I'd use a specific Mould and Mildew killer (like the HG Foam Spray) on it, instead of bleach.

I'd agree that it is being caused by his excessive showering, it must be costing you a fortune! What length and frequency are these showers, and is he paying his fair share of all bills?

How effective is your extractor? I've seen a test recommended to hold a sheet of paper up to it, to see if it sucks and holds it up. My previous extractor sounded like it was working, but we found the vent hose both disconnected and full of lint. I get no moisture on the walls or ceiling now since it was replaced.

Also, is your dehumidifier able to work effectively with the window open, or is it trying to dry the sea air outside?
