HELP! Wet soil in carpet

So we've just moved into a new house. DM came over and when I wasn't looking must have watered all the plants so half the bloody pots were filled to the brim ... why she did this I'll never know. Plants shouldn't be sat in stagnant water!!!

Anyway DC has just pulled down one of the plants and this delightful muddy soil has gone into a textured cream carpet 🤦‍♀️
I've vacuumed the wet soil off the carpet and used paper towels to try and dry the carpet but it looks like a muddy football pitch on the floor.
In a moment of desperation I've put bicarbonate of soda down to see if it would absorb some of the water so I could vacuum it again.

Any suggestions on getting this stain out? DP will be furious at DMIL/DC and I'd rather not try and replace a carpets.

I'm not good with cleaning and google comes up with too many ideas which half look wrong 😑

I'd let it dry out completely (Bicarb won't hurt, especially if it smells) and then brush as much loose from the carpet and then hoover it. I expect it's very difficult to remove because it's wet and sludgy. Then carpet shampoo to remove any remaining stain, you might need to do it several times. That's just my hunch though!

Depends what the carpet is made of. Tricky if it's wool. But if its synthetic, you can give it a shampoo with a carpet cleaning machine. Or just scrub with hot water and a bit of washing up liquid. I'd wait til it's dry, vacuum again and then clean it.

Let it dry completely then brush off what you can.
Vacuum clean it thoroughly then use a carpet shampoo.
Apply a stain remover.

Thanks this is the state of the carpet currently. Have vacuumed most of the bicarbonate and soil out but it still looks terrible. I hate carpets downstairs for this reason. Any suggestions as the carpet is textured?

I've got Dr. Beckmann carpet stain removed but that did nothing to a spilt Guniess a few weeks ago. Is professional or to buy a carpet vacuum the better option?

Vacuum clean it a bit more. I've used the Dr Beckmann's stain spray on red wine (on a cotton rug) and it worked.

It doesn't look totally dry. If it is dry you could sprinkle bicarb on it and rub it a bit to loosen more earth, then use the hoover.

Edited

The carpet is so thick it's not drying even with the heating on.
I've blotted it with a towel and stood on paper towels trying to get it dry but it's still not there yet,

Could I use one of those rental carpet cleaning machines maybe?
