Hello

Looking for inspiration - I like the idea of fly lady, but do struggle with trying to fit things in with a 10 m/o and two other housework terrorists in the home

So how do you do it? I've managed getting dressed and shining my sink (sporadically) for 2 weeks!

Well, I'm just starting too, with a 19m old and a 3m old..

I think its all about the babysteps and forming one habit at a time..

Ie, don't try and do the whole system at once. Go through the babysteps, I found I wasn't even keeping up with doing one babystep a day, more like one every few days. But even so, I've managed to shine my sink most nights before bed and this morning I'm dressed and I even have my shoes on!

I figure if I can just hang on to those two things til they turn into a habit I can start adding missions and decluttering etc then..

I also really like the 15 minutes thing - thats great for stuff like laundry. Ie, I'll just fold and put away what I can in 15 minutes. It turns out that is usually most of it! Usually it just sits there in a big pile and annoys ne,

My big thing is shoes on though. I'm doing it, but I don't really "get" it, especially because we have wooden floors and theres usually a child asleep somewhere in the house. Though I suppose it was useful earlier when I needed to put the bin out!

hi, i have only started doing it this week. i love the 15 min thing, i seem to get more done in those fifteen mins than i usually would in an hour. as taliac says, don't try and do everything, just try the baby steps first and build up from there.
Taliac, i get dressed but i don't pt my shoes on- i don't let anyone wear shoes in the house. my shoes are kept in cupbaord by the door so i put them on on the way out

Hi,

Lots of the regular FLYers have small babies. I started when ds was under a year.
Baby steps did help me establish routines, and the 15 minute bursts really help me keep focussed.

The trick is not trying to clean everywhere all in one go, and then giving up because it is too much to do and the baby needs atention. Doing tiny jobs as you pass an area, and working round the whole house does give results eventiually.

hello bb
i'm in the same pos with a 9 week old (on lap as trying to type). Using the baby steps and doing what i can but not beating myself up if not completing things - if i get the laundry done then i'm happy and will treat missions as bonus. Also finding that with all the getting in and out of bed to sleep when baby does has thrown the shoes thing right out - though i start the day with them on! Its nice to have FL there to focus should i get an hour off!

Just posted on the other thread re the shoes thing - tried it all day yesterday and this am and I'm sort've starting to see the point a bit, I do feel more "ready to get working" with shoes on.. Hmmm..

Do little bits here and there rather than whole tasks at once. I take a whole week to do the bless this house hour!

Be realistic. Only tidy at bed time (otherwise you'll be doing it all day). Only hoover/ wash the floor 1xweek etc.

I focus on laundry and making sure we've got food in the cupboards.

Thought you meant how do you fly in an aeroplane with small breasts.

Was puzzled, to say the least.

Good tips - never wanted to be a pilot tho!

We don't do shoes in the house either - do flip flops count. Will check FLY thread and get an egg timer!
