Rock/Pebble Storage...

I hope I don't come across as a real-life Makka Pakka but is there a nice way to store/display rocks, pebbles and shells?
Me and the children have found some unusual pebbles on our journeys and I'd quite like somewhere to store them. Potentially in a fancy storage jar but it would have to be quite robust. I'd like us to be able to collect more on our future travels too.

Any suggestions? Where do you keep fancy pebbles?!

Real life Makka Pakka 🤣

How about something like this? https://amzn.eu/d/0dF4n8h

I've seen seashells displayed in something similar and it looked really good

The smaller version is a potential. I hadn't considered shelves but it's a good idea.

IKEA used to do a coffee table with sections under the glass top to display collections. I think it was called Liatorps. But if it was me I'd get this coffee table and make a real feature out of your treasures.

I put them on top of the compost in my many house plants.

I’ve got a big pile in the non-functioning fireplace, and little heaps in lots of other locations. They look nice in sealed jars as well.

I have this really heavy glass jar thing in my fireplace with mine

I have a flower bed patch that is just for goodies foraged at the beach.

Big glass jar

I'm a real life macca pacca too and I'd not even realised it until now. 🤣

We have our stones, shells, seagrass, fossils, etc in wooden tea chest boxes. They have lids on though so no good for displaying.

I'd suggest the IKEA coffee table too. Or those printer trays mounted on a wall might be good. Or box frames? Depends where you want them to be too eg wall space/floor space etc.

I did similar to @Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky

but with a pillar candle in the middle, much larger karaffe/vase. It looked lovely as a centre piece on kitchen windowsill and the dining table…. Until it smashed from the slightest knock, gutted.

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky Ooo where's this from please?

I did this too, but same outcome!

I ‘collect’ stones with holes in so I thread them onto twine and hang them on my flower pots Dungeness style, the other ones I use to cover the soil in the pots.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 16/11/2023 17:27

@SunshineOnARainyDay3 it was an Aldi middle aisle special - only about £10.

Maybe about this time last year.....

SunshineOnARainyDay3 · 16/11/2023 17:49

Thanks all. I hadn't thought about using in flower pots either!

Sorry to be a downer, but you really shouldn't remove pebbles from beaches. It's a big problem in some places and can ultimately lead to more costal erosion. It's illegal in some places.

HereForTheFreeLunch · 16/11/2023 18:23

I have been looking at these for sea shells - expensive though so haven't really bought any yet.

menopausalmare · 16/11/2023 18:27

Set them into plaster of Paris and make a mosaic.

Shellingbynight · 17/11/2023 17:44

I have seashells and pebbles (mostly shells) and to display them I've used items I already had - a couple of tall plain glass vases, an apothecary jar and an old Kilner preserving jar.
