Robot vacuum...yes or no?

With Black Friday coming up I thought I'd treat myself to one as been thinking about it for years but keep talking myself out and then back in again. Are they worth it??
We have 3 DC aged 5. 3 and 1 so a lot of crumbs and both work pretty much full time so anything that helps with the housework in any way would be a welcome addition. Do they actually help though or are they just a novelty item that hardly gets used after a while?

I use mine every day. You do need to make sure the floor is a clear as possible tho. So no toys, trailing cables, clothes etc.

Rainbowshit · 12/11/2023 22:04

I love mine. I actually have two...

mrsbyers · 12/11/2023 22:04

We have one and very rarely use it , wouldn’t buy again

SgtJuneAckland · 12/11/2023 22:06

Love ours, doesn't remove the need for a proper hoover once a week or so, to get behind things or in awkward corners, but it stops the crumbs, dust, cat hair. Ours is scheduled so it goes off while we put DS to bed, it's good because it means after dinner there's a reason to make sure everything is picked up/put away, we put dining chairs up too. Then come down after bedtime and everything is clear clean and tidy.
He also does the kitchen while we eat breakfast in the dining room (down a step so can't get there by himself)

Theoldwoman · 12/11/2023 22:07

Yes yes yes!

Ive had four over many years. Use it 2-3 times a day, every day. I will never be without one. Once you see how much dust they collect, you will wonder how you survived without one.

Beginningless · 12/11/2023 22:09

I do use it, I got a Hoover/mop one though and the mop function is rubbish, I wouldn’t recommend that. Also it’s the best on my hard floors, on my carpets it tends to spread pet hair round a bit, but if you don’t have pets it should be grand. I use it daily to keep things ticking over but still use my Henry every few days to properly deal with pet hair.

UpUpUpU · 12/11/2023 22:11

Yes! Mine kid almost 4 years old now and used daily. He’s starting to sound a bit worse for wear so have a fund ready to replace him when the time comes!

mechanicalpencil · 12/11/2023 22:11

I have also been wondering the same OP!
Any recommendations for best makes?

PensionPuzzle · 12/11/2023 22:14

I hated ours but DP thought it was a marvel. He doesn't/didn't do the vacuuming so we didn't replace the robot, I would rather do it myself despite working full time, two kids, pets. That's how much I hated the noisy, ineffective thing.

The reason it died was because the dog had a sudden horrible toilet related illness while we were out, the robot did its thing in our absence and.... Yeah. It was as bad as you think it was. At least it was a good excuse to get rid of the thing AND the consequent rug doctor hire showed up how crap the bloody thing had been to begin with.

I bought one out of curiosity. 2 months later I now have 3!! 2 samsung jet bots (one per floor) and 1 vacuum/ mop(shellbot).
They are a game changer. My house is pretty with flat with oak floors and stone and they are on every day.
I’m almost obsessed with them - they pick up even the finest dust.
I feel as if I’ve got real help in a household with 4 teenagers and 2 cats.
Everyone keeps the floor clear as the robots will get tangled up in any wires …it’s a win win😉
I won’t be without them now.

ChocoChocoLatte · 12/11/2023 22:25

Love ours because we have three kids and two w*nker dogs so it's on a lot. It doesn't take away the need to hoover but it certainly relieves the guilt and reduces the sand/dirt/dust from my slattern ways......

DNLove · 12/11/2023 22:28

Yes, definitely. I have it set to run during day while I'm there. You do need to make sure there's no cables, small things on floor but it feel like house is somewhat clean each day. I would say if you are buying one buy the highest power one you can, about £150/200. Don'tv worry about auto emptying ones. Takes 2 mins to empty every second day. Auto emptying costs another 100 or so.

Willow12345 · 12/11/2023 22:31

Love mine. On every day which we need with YAs, cats and a dog. You'll be amazed at how much dust and dirt it picks up.

Poshjock · 12/11/2023 23:03

Love mine. Very basic cheap model (eufy 11s max) bought 2 years ago in the Black Friday sale. He’s done the kitchen and living room every morning since then and upstairs 2 bedrooms and hall one a week since then. I change the filter and brushes every 6 months and he’s doing grand. Still have a stick Dyson for spot cleans and the stairs. I would buy a smarter model next time around, but until then my wee Robby serves me well

RunnyPaint · 12/11/2023 23:13

Mine was a right PITA to use and I was delighted to bin it. It took longer to make the floor "safe" for Eufy than it did to clean the floor myself, as our dining chairs are the perfect size to trap an Eufy... it was fine on hard floors but did nothing worthwhile with the carpets (except whinge about the edge of the rug)....

CuteCillian · 12/11/2023 23:18

He also does the kitchen while we eat breakfast How do you know he is male?

rainbow616 · 12/11/2023 23:37

Sorry to jump in, but do people think price matters? Just seen one on Amazon down to £99 from £165, would it be decent?

Weallnamechangesometimes · 12/11/2023 23:41

Yes and giant goggly eyes to give him/her character

Has to be a Roomba.

My first one was bought in 2012 and still going strong.

Other imitations are lesser models.

They are amazing, which is why I have a second one - one for each floor of the house.

Truly has been the best purchase of my life!

Mercurial123 · 15/11/2023 04:25

I had a L'efant for years and it was brilliant. Now have an Eufy which isn't great.

andyourpointiswhat · 15/11/2023 04:44

I bought a Eufy after reading a thread like this. I didn’t want to spend a fortune and it’s perfect, the floor is definitely a lot cleaner and I vacuum less. We are all on one level though so don’t really need fancy features. I tend to keep it out of the bedrooms as the floors are rarely clear, it is great for living/dining/family room/office.

ladeluge · 15/11/2023 05:04

Can you set different programs, I.e. for upstairs and downstairs on the same one? I was thinking of the model with the mop but a poster above doesn't recommend!

Wantofeelgood · 19/11/2023 09:19

DH looking at an ecovac that’s a fortune - 600. It washes its own mops and Hoovers, does anyone know ecovac? I’ll mention the ones recommended here. We looked at FILs ‘which’ website, but they aren’t too useful.
this is much better!
