Smelly biker jacket!

Hoping someone can give me a bit of advice 🙏
I bought a biker jacket from vinted which I love but good God it stinks! Of cigarettes. And a strange other kind of musty covered up with perfume smell. It says it’s dry clean only and that the lining of the coat is polyester (as per attached tag)
there’s a removable fur trim which I’m wondering if I could wash on hand wash setting?
does anybody have any suggestions or am I going to have to fork out for dry cleaning? Any advice gratefully received!! Thanks 😀

I'd make up a solution of washing powder/gel and warm water and make sure it's all diluted and mixed up. Then I'd use a clean cloth to wipe every inch of the jacket, not getting it too wet. Leave to air hung up by an open window.

Once dry, I'd repeat with a bowl of mixed and diluted fabric conditioner. I'd add a rinse step to the outside of the jacket, so just plain water and not getting it too wet.

You could add some bicarb into the first step.

If that didn't work, then I'd take it for dry cleaning.

Activated charcoal removes smells that airing or bicarbonate of soda can’t.
I’d try airing it first, but otherwise you can buy bags of charcoal on eBay etc from fish tank suppliers. Make little sachets of the charcoal using coffee filters and a stapler. Stuff them into the pockets, sleeves etc. put the jacket in a ziplock bag, chuck some more charcoal sachets in the bag, seal it all up and leave for a while. Use lots of charcoal and a bit of patience.
This works for musty smells too.

Brilliant, thank you so much for the tips both! Giving it a wipe down and getting it out on the line as we speak and if that doesn’t work I’ll look into the charcoal stuff. Thank you!!

If that doesn't work you could try wiping/spraying with white vinegar, diluted if you don't feel brave.

Hang it in fresh air for a long time.

It can sometimes takes several attempts, especially if the perfume smell that is also there is an oily or limonene based one.

Thank you so much, it still smells a bit so off to get some white vinegar and if that doesn’t work then dry cleaners it is!!

You may have already given up trying and taken it to the cleaners, but do keep at it if not. You could also put it in a plastic box with a huge bowl of bicarbonate of soda or some cat litter, close the box, and leave it for ages. But not if it is damp from vinegar.

Wondering how you got on...

Is it plastic? Pop it in the washing machine (on the delicate cycle if you think it can't take spinning) with liquid soap/shampoo/shower gel instead of washing powder, if you're worried about it getting destroyed. I'm ruthless with washing though and CBA with special care so I reserve the above for fabric with a waterproof coating. Soap doesn't destroy those coatings like detergent would. Mostly though, everything here goes in on a 40°C quick wash with non-bio powder, including the plastic things. Very rarely is anything destroyed.

Hmmm it still smells a bit to be honest so I am going to have to take it to the dry cleaners. I detached and washed the faux fur collar on a hand wash cycle which was fine but the pleather just seems to hang on to the smell!!
