Economical way to use heating

There must be an optimum way to use the thermostat? Is it keeping it on low all the time? Or putting on in small bursts - I would love someone to tell me exactly what it should be - my heating bills are ridiculous but I can't bear to be freezing. Thanks

Timer and thermostat set low. That way it comes on when you need it. If you’re heating the house all day you’re spending money all day.
Condensation can be a problem with fluctuations in temperature so air the house when it’s warm outside.
Heat the person, not the air.

Ditto above Also wearing 2 layers, jumpers if possible, really helps

Whereabouts are you located, and what type of house do you have? If you are able to, put some additional loft insulation in.

Per previous posts, more layers, and nothing cotton next to your skin as you will sweat and that will get cold. Then keep the heating low, but boost it when you need.

Mine is still mostly off. The house drops to about 17 degrees overnight (window open in bedroom), then I may boost it to 18 maybe 19 for an hour in the morning, and maybe a couple of hours in the evening.

Letting the temperature of the house drop too much will take an age to heat up again.

Marking place.
my house has been 13 today, have layered up but my nose is freezing!

I leave the heating on all year round - it's purely controlled by the thermostat which is set at 17.

If I'm cold I turn it up.

Whether it's an urban myth or not I don't know but I believe topping up minimally in short bursts throughout the day is more economical than heating a house from cold every morning.

It works for me and my bills really aren't extortionate and aren't any different to my mother's who has her heating on a timer to come on twice a day then complains how cold it is from lunchtime until 5pm

Heat as few rooms as possible

Use thermostat and keep it low as possible ( don't blast heat till it's hot and then turn it off - leave it at a reasonable temperature the whole time you want a warm home )

Insulate. Close the curtains and tuck them behind the radiators if they are under the windows

Turn it off when you are out
