Things that cut down your chores / made easier

What things have you done that have made your 'chores' so much easier / cut down on them. I am always looking for ways to free up some time as we all likely are!:

For me:

  • Dishwasher
  • Hiring a cleaner
  • Kids helping with cleaning for spending money (completely voluntary on their part!)
  • Getting the weekly shop delivered (we never wanted to go on the big shop and ended up doing loads of little shops / takeaway which wasted time and money)

Checking if clothes (mine and kids) definitely do need washing or could get away with another wear - rather than chucking everything in the basket at the end of the day

I have pets, so no carpet - washable floors and throws on all soft furnishings, which can be chucked in the machine. Still work but quicker!

I tidy up as I go. Wash up/ load dishwasher while the dinner is on so less to do when having eaten.

Meal planning which I use to do the food order- always have this delivered now.

I put stuff away when it's not needed any more.

I spend 3 mins tidying before I go to bed ( any cups plates and glasses in the kitchen either in dishwasher or washed up.) Cushions straightened, stuff put in the right place.

Robot vac used daily- not quite as good as upright but keeps the floors mainly clean.

Quick tidy of the bedroom first thing in the morning- make bed, clothes in wash bin,quick wipe down of the sink, bleach in the loo in the bathroom etc

Clothes folded as soon as tumble dryer finished so mostly no ironing needed.

Cleaning rooms on rotation rather than doing it all on one day.

It's a matter of doing a little and often so stuff doesn't build up. Lots of little regular chores are far less overwhelming than a huge mess where you just don't know where to start so avoid doing it.

I have recently put one of the dish washing sponges with a handle that you fill with washing up liquid in the shower and while waiting for my Conditioner to do its thing I clean that shower glass. Washing up liquid hasn't the toxic smell of other cleaners and it gets the glass really clean.

Robot cleaner. All floors hard, so got an all singing and dancing mopping one. Then spent a lot of thought working out how to raise all furniture and items off the floor so 100% of the floors can be accessed by the robot hoover. Even the animals food and water is up on a low shelf . Game changing! Also robot hoover both upstairs and downstairs so no real effort needed to clean either level which means everything actually gets done. Everything is hoovered once and usually twice a day.

Endless decluttering mindset. You can't tidy clutter, only move it.

Big fleece throws over sofas and huge bedspreads over the beds (thanks vinted!), so the hairy, vomit-y gross pets are easy to clean after.

The above have been literally life changing for me with the hair and mud I have to deal with (13 cats, 3 dogs, and huge flock of chickens, ducks and peacocks who like to sneak in!).

Bathroom gets a dettol wipe and a squirt of bleach down the loo every morning before I head out.

I rinse the shower screen clean when I'm in the shower

Dishwasher on every day even if a half load so set to eco as saves dishes lying around

Robo vac on every evening or a morning on weekends

Bought a small shark cordless sofa hoover which I whizz over a few times a week and run round with polish at same time

Wipe kitchen sides down and tidy it every evening before bed. Takes a few mins

Check what washing is being thrown In

Do a couple of loads mid week so it's not all heaped on at weekends

Recycling out every day so it doesn't stack up

I’ve been doing a wash every day. Because it’s only one load it gets put away straight away. Then the bedding and towel washes at weekends seem dead easy too.

i keep cleaning supplies in each room. So a bathroom spray, cloth, loo cleaner, gloves etc in each bathroom/loo. Just makes it simpler to clean as I go.

Decluttering. If you get rid of it you never have to tidy it again.

Wiping up spills save scrubbing later - keep some cleaning product in the bathroom so you can give a quick wipe when you see something - giving a cleaning product a couple of minutes to work also saves scrubbing.

Eufy saves some work but makes other jobs - you have to empty it, and clean it, and dirt builds up where it misses, and the spiders get so much braver.

Giving my dd a can’t be arsed hanging this up again wear later basket beside her laundry basket cut the washing in half.

Good doormats that trap dirt and moisture.

Robot vacuum. It goes on 3 times a day, in some part of the house.
The 5 areas I do every morning are:
Load of laundry on
Empty/load dishwasher and run
Clean toilet
Clear front entrance
Rubbish/recycling out

Mine really is cooking in advance and freezing so there are less pans and mess and. cooking smells

shower caps are great for cling filming dinners !

Quick laundry loads-we all change clothes far too often and some items just need a quick freshen up. A 45 min cycle makes things much quicker than a 2.5 hour one. Obvs soiled or in need of cleaning items like towels and bedding get a hot, long wash!

Having a housekeeper is great. She cleans, tidies, organises, keeps on top of everything for me. I stopped work to raise our kids and found I spent more time cleaning than caring so she helps out 5 days a week!

Dishwasher- I hate doing dishes, we have 5 kids, self explanatory.

Coordinated wardrobe. My wardrobe is seasonal, other seasons clothes are stored away. Everything matches/Coordinates.

Deliveroo for most of my daytime meals. So much quicker and easier and a treat. I eat better, healthier food than when I made it myself in a rush.

I have a large heavy duty clothing r ail and dry clothes Ron coat hangers. Even keep the kids stuff on hangers to iron and then pop straight in the wardrobes.

Living alone. It means I don't have the resentment that would build up when I lived with a partner and when the kids were younger, that all the jobs were left to me. All the jobs ARE mine, so all dropped socks are mine, all dirty dishes are mine and I really don't mind tidying up after myself. It turns out that it was the tidying up after lazy buggers that really got to me.
