Help - any way back for this mouldy bath seal/grout?

I am so embarrassed that I have let it get to this state, but I’ve had several stressful years and the cleaning has taken a back seat 😣
I will try and attach a photo but basically the bath seal has lots of black mould and I think it is/has spread up the grout, which is quite orange. I realise there is no way back for the seal - did use that ‘magic’ stuff that worked for about a week, but not permanent. But what products do I need to sort out the grout? I’ve scrubbed it with Cif but it doesn’t fix it completely. I really want to blitz it, then get it re-sealed and then look after it. But is it too late now the mould is in the grout?

Definitely try bleach first. It’ll work on the grout (but just a scrub should sort that out) and may work on the sealant too.

I've just used HG mould remover on my sealant and HG grout cleaner on my grout. Came up like new again where other brands didn't make a difference.

In my experience the grouting is easier to clean than the sealant.

I'm pretty sure that HG mould spray would work on that grout. It's sold in lots of places, including online.

I recommend this too.

In fact, my tiles were just as bad and this is what I did.

HG mould spray - twice
HG grout cleaner - twice
HG scale remover - twice

Now they are 90% better - I am going to go over them with a white grout pen and then put a sealant on and hopefully that will be it.

The grout will be easy to bleach off, but you'll have trouble with the sealant.
Its very easy to re-do - scrape out the old stuff, and apply new with a tube of sealant and a skeleton gun! (run your finger along to get a smooth finish once applied)

Yep another one for hg mould remover.

Just spray on leave on for an hour and they will be so much better.

NotSuchASmugMarried · 03/11/2023 21:17

silly question but which bit is grout and which bit is sealant?

maw29 · 03/11/2023 21:23

Fill it bang mould spray.

Open the window and wear a mask but that will be gone in 10 minutes with that.

Spray, ignore then wipe off.

Cillit bang.

I think the orange stuff is scale.

Fluttermummy · 03/11/2023 21:26

I love that I am more knowledgeable than you @NotSuchASmugMarried … 😂 the sealant is round where the bath meets the tiles, the grout is between the tiles.
(really hope you weren’t being sarcastic 😀)

@Travelfan2021 I did use Mould Magic maybe 6 months ago but it has all come back so I decided maybe it was just a surface treatment?

Yeah the orange could be scale, we have such water. We did go through a phase of using soap as a pp said, as it is more eco friendly, but have reverted to very mild shower gels/aqueous due to eczema etc

Ah OK thanks. No sarcasm! Genuine question.

Buy activated bleach spray (dettol do one), chuck on for an hour. See what you have. Try again. Soak cotton wool in bleach and leave on overnight.

Our bathroom has no fan and it's above the shared alley so gets fecking freezing with the window open, have to properly dry it down every time and there's 6 of us so a bloody mission.

get the kids and yourself bathed, strip out the sealant, proper bleach the gap overnight and try reseal yourself if confident, can be tricky, folks tend to do too narrow a strip.

Cilit Bang mould remover works and will work on this. Spray it on and then after a couple of hours apply cotton wool all the way around and spray again so that the cotton wool is soaked in the mould remover which then sinks into the mouldy areas. Leave for 24 hours if possible and I’d necessary reapply it all. It will be 95% gone.
