Right I have 2 children under 3 and am really struggling to keep on top of the housework, my dh has commented several times on the state of the place - although always clean and tidy!!! Has anyone got any routines? What is this FLY thing I keep seeing? X

fly lady here

Don't do it myself, but having nosied at the threads its something about concentrating on "Zones" of your house in 15 minute bursts and guidance on tackling a small area per day.

Someone may be along soon who can tell you more. HTH.

No idea what the Fly thing is

Your dh sounds a bit of an arse (sorry)

I've got 2 pre-schoolers too. Work P-T. Have found the best thing is to just do one room a day

So, eg Monday-bathroom, Tuesday-kids room, Weds-my room etc

Makes me feel hat at least it's partially acceptable most of the time

posieflump · 09/03/2008 20:49

why doesn't your dh help out more if he is so concerned?

bozza · 09/03/2008 20:51

So what is the "state of the place" if it is always clean and tidy? Bit confused what he is complaining about....

cathshuck · 09/03/2008 20:52

says he will if asked but you dont do you! He did do the ironing tonight when asked but only as I had a hissy fit. Just feels like I am constanlty tidying and cleaning with no real result as the house is trashed again in 10 seconds!

Come and join us on the FLY Thread.

Some of us follow the FLY routine, which basically advocates getting rid of the clutter and developing a daily, weekly and monthly achievable routine to suit you. There are also daily missions (tasks) to do.

I have two under three and found it a godsend.

Some others post a list of what they are planning to do that day and use it as an incentive.

We are all really supportive and not at all anthea like

He compplained today about dust on the very top of the door!!

One good thing about my routines, is that DH has some too

ie

Empty cat litter
Kitchen bin
Empty Dishwasher

Men are great if you actually give them a task and then praise them.

He actually does my routines to a point if I am ill. I have a list in the kitchen. At least this way the house ticks over and h

Yes, I DO ask!

Don't bother tidying... really not worth it (maybe a quick put-away when they've gone to bed)

Just do what's needed early in th morning.

Eg, I'll do the bathroom after breakfast or if DD1 is at nursery and THAT'S IT for the day!

TheMadHouse · 09/03/2008 20:56

erm......... not sure what happened there -sorry

bozza · 09/03/2008 21:01

I see no reason why you can't ask him, if he is planning on having such high standards. The idea of set chores that are his is good. My children are 7 and 3 and I work 3 days a week, but DH is downstairs doing the ironing. I have done the first stint and he is finishing off. I think having a set routine is really the way to go. So certain things (cleaning upstairs, cleaning downstairs, changing beds etc) get done on certain days.

cathshuck · 12/03/2008 19:47

Well ladies I did ask and with results!! He has washed up and when asked tidied up and agreed that all outside tasks will be his including bins and the bathroom! Easil y solved in the end so thanks!
