Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to a cleaning routine with small kids about? I feel like if I had more of a cleaning structure to the week i might be more productive! Kids are 4y and 15m and i know some people will say not to worry but I would like to start keeping even a slightly cleaner house if I can!

I use an app called Tody. Sounds lame to use an app but it helps me remember what jobs need doing in what order. I set each room with certain jobs and the frequency each job needs to be completed. Then it uses a rag rating etc.

there’s also the organised mum method if you have a Google

We have a nearly three year old. We clean either on Saturday and plonk him in front of the tv for 30 mins whilst we dust, hoover and polish downstairs or clean on Friday night after he's gone to bed.

Upstairs is a bit more of a challenge. The bathrooms are cleaned every weekend but upstairs gets dusted and hoovered maybe once every two weeks on Saturday or Sunday night once toddler is in bed.

Having a clutter free house really helps as there are no trinkets or anything getting in the way of surfaces being given a quick dust.

Clear up at tea time. Clean up after bedtime...
Or hand them a duster and an empty can of polish... At toddler age mine loaded and unloaded the washing machine! ..cleaned doors with baby wipes! Helping early on really works for the long term. Ime. At least you can get bits done with them around!

Similar age kids & I have struggled to keep the house clean! A new thing we are trying is once every few weeks dh takes the kids out for 3 hours and I'm just going to blitz as much cleaning as I can in this time. Could u do the same?

Mine are similar ages and I feel like we are now starting to climb out of the pits!
We've been decluttering like mad, selling baby things, dump run once per week on the way to nursery pick up... The less crap there is in your way, the easier it is to clear and clean.
Finding now that my baby is no longer a baby 😭he's happier to potter about in his playpen for a bit while I quickly deal with post meal devastation, and both kids able to play together too which frees me up. It's much easier to deal with things as you go than deal with it all after bedtime when you just want to sit down yourself with a cup of tea IMO.
I used to feel guilty about this but ultimately I can't have my 14 month old playing on the floor be just launched his lunch at and my 4 year old can't have his playdoh or paints all over the dining table if it's piled high with washing or dishes.
DH and I use our breaks on WFH days to do speed cleans of different areas of the house so between us we make our way through everything pretty regularly. Don't want to be wasting time at the weekend scrubbing the loo!

Have you looked at the organised mum method? Quite helpful to get into a routine of what you do

I was able to do clean and tidying basics in the morning after breakfast. However, I did most cleaning in the evening after tea when my partner took them upstairs to get ready for bed leaving me free. We still have this routine 12 years later but now he's supervising homework upstairs instead.
