Dehumidifiers

So talk to me about dehumidifiers for drying clothes? I have several airers. Are they really worth the hype?
Any recommendations?

My meaco is excellent and it absolutely does dry my washing a lot quicker than if it just hangs inside on the airer.

Wouldn't be without ours. Get one with as higher extraction as possible. I put mine in a small spare room with a fan too. Lighter clothes dried within 4 hours. The heavier cotton take longer - I try and angle the fan towards the heavier clothes this tends to help.

I have a version of this one 20l and a 6.5l tank

Hijacking this thread, but does anybody have a recommendation for a small dehumidifier?

We've been on a few Uni Open days/looking at halls. It struck me that having an ensuite loo and shower in what is little more than a cupboard would be a nightmare for condensation/mould.

I suppose the answer might be those cheap little water-absorbent crystal tubs, but while I am here......

Anything able to cope with the amout of humidity created by a shower will be quite large.

I am interested in capacity - I have a 2 bed duplex flat and would plan to use a standard butterfly clothes airer (or heated one).

What kind of capacity is working for you all?

I had this set-up in uni halls (purpose built student accommodation, very modern), and no issues with damp. There was an extractor fan in the "cupboard" which must have been very good.

Not a damp house but Tons of washing here. 5/6 people doing sports plus the rest.

Heating on for 2hrs per day from this week. Not enough to dry anything fully really . Use outdoors as much as I can.

On the strength of this thread invested in a 10 L Medco. Did two x 6hr Laundry Setting runs in the utility room with door shut and dried an airer with 6 towels on it and a load of hanging sports kit. Emptied out 10 Litres of water. In one day.

Pure joy.

Medco = Meaco

I have a flat under the eves so can be cold and damp, a grade 2 building. I am hoping to get insulation done but meanwhile what would you recommend for cold spaces, I have read that some dehumidifiers don’t work so well in the colder rooms.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 09/11/2023 10:22

The dessicant type works better than the condenser type in cold areas (but is more expensive to run, and 'cold' is below about 15°C so you may be above that). Dehumidifiers of both types also emit heat, so the electricity you're paying for does serve 2 purposes.

Excellent! However I'd definitely have gone for a 20L Meaco in your situation! I've got a 12L in a flat, just me living here and it is only just about big enough I reckon, as it needs frequent emptying.

mags209 · 28/11/2023 14:24

In error

mags209 · 28/11/2023 14:26

Can I ask what capacity or which Meaco you have or would suggest for helping dry laundry?

FredaFox · 01/12/2023 08:47

Thanks to this thread I bought a meaco, I'm really pleased with it

Reigateforever · 01/12/2023 12:47

FredaFox. So did I.
