Mould on textured (artex?) bathroom ceiling

Has anyone had a similar issue?

I tested a patch using HG mould spray and it removed it beautifully without me having to even touch it, but I’m scared it’ll disrupt potential asbestos fibres and release them in to the air. The house was build mid 90’s so it’s possible Artex thought apparently unlikely.

Asbestos is only an issue if you create dust eg by drilling into the ceiling. I can't see how spraying something on would be a problem? Unless you followed it up with sandpaper?

@lurchermummy my concern is that the bleach could start “disintegrating” the textured ceiling, meaning it could start peeling/falling.

Well, if you’re that concerned you could speak to an asbestos expert but I really doubt it.

The use of asbestos in artex was phased out from about 1984, so very unlikely you'll have any.

I am not an expert, but I would not think it likely that a bit of mould spray sprayed on and wiped off would disintegrate the artex to any significant degree. Also, as the PP says, it is the dust that is dangerous.

The artex is probably painted anyway so "sealed in" - the mould will be on the paint not the artex itself. Scrub away.

I use an old exfoliating bath sponge and bleach on mine and I'm still alive.

Plus, it will be damp so there won't be dust to inhale. The chemicals and mould will pose more of a respiratory risk!

Just buy a dust mask from a DIY shop if you're really worried.
