Toilet - marks below water line

Someone else posted about marks above. I've got marks that won't come off in the water bowl. I've tried HG super limescale but that's really for dry surfaces. Is there a product I could put in the water bowl to get rid of the marks? I'm guessing it's limescale maybe but not sure. Thanks

From my experience, pumice stone is the thing with toilet and basin marks. Quick and easy.

OhNoForever · 15/10/2023 17:15

Push the water out with the toilet brush. It will go over the UB. Black harpic is the one.

newyorkbreakfast · 15/10/2023 21:21

@PermanentTemporary does that not scratch the enamel? @OhNoForever I'll try the Harpic thanks.

Spirits of Salts. Your toilet will be pristine. Read the instructions carefully, it's powerful stuff.

Helenahandkart · 15/10/2023 22:25

A bottle of white vinegar. Leave overnight. Scratchy green sponge in the morning.

Kilrock will do the trick, as will spirits of salts.

Put a dishwasher tablet in the toilet overnight, then scrub with the loo brush in the morning. You might need to do this several times if it's really bad, we moved into a house with really thick limescale in the loo and I tried everything. Dishwasher tab was the only thing that shifted it, it came off in disgustingly satisfying chunks.

Just to say- be really careful about mixing cleaning products in your loo, just use one thing at a time and make sure it's thoroughly washed away if you plan to use something else. I only say this because one of my colleagues in a previous job mixed (I think) vinegar and bleach in the loo and created mustard gas 😬

Deffo black harpic! Chuck loads down and leave for hours, ideally overnight. Scrub, flush, sparkling clean. It’s the only thing that works for me

mintich · 15/10/2023 22:52

Pumice stone, it doesn't scratch the enamel

Another vote for this!

Bottle of full sugar Coca-Cola down the loo and leave overnight. Scrub with loo brush next morning.

newyorkbreakfast · 15/10/2023 22:58

Thanks all, I'll try the dishwasher tablet tonight as that's the only thing on the list that I've actually got. Hadn't heard of spirit of salts. I'll look into that too.

Citric acid crystals (sometimes called Lemon Salts) available in many health food stores or continental groceries. It's great for descaling kettles too.

If using purpose made toilet gel / harpic etc, it helps to bale as much water as you can out first so the product isn't diluted. Use a throw away plastic glove and an old yoghurt pot or something you can chuck away afterwards.

I used to use spirit of salts but it is very strong stuff. A couple of weeks ago I bought a long handled pumice block from Amazon and used that and it was brilliant, came off so easily, no need to scoop out water, wear rubber gloves, handle hazardous chemicals etc.

Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 15/10/2023 23:59

Harpic Power Plus tablets work a treat. Just drop one in and leave overnight. If still not completely clean, do the same the next night.

NewtonPulsifer · 16/10/2023 00:35

Seconding the Harpic Power Plus tablets.

Once the stains were gone, I put a denture tablet down the loo every night and the stains haven’t come back.

caringcarer · 16/10/2023 02:12

Harpic limescale toilet tablets.

CrotchetyQuaver · 16/10/2023 11:01

Black harpic tablets left overnight. Might take a few goes but it will work

Thanks so much everyone. Toilet experts!
