Do I need a washing machine with a 1600rpm spin?

Am replacing my washing machine. The current one is finally on its last legs (have hated it for 8 years!) and is 1400rpm.

Is it worth spending extra for a 1600 spin?

I had one in my last home, but it was sold with the house. It was excellent for things like towels, bedding, jeans. Totally unnecessary for most other things.

My current machine is 1400 and it’s fine, though I spin twice if tumble drying.

yes- it gets clothes dryer as spins faster therefore clothes dry quicker and more efficiently

strawberry12345 · 14/10/2023 17:03

Does it make the clothes more creased?

I don't really notice the difference between 1400 and 1600. If I'm not doing a full load, I spin at 1400 or 1200 and it's not that different from 1600.

(If your machine is not loaded to its full capacity, you shouldn't spin at max speed as it will be unbalanced, and will damage the motor - found that out the hard way!)

Our old one was 1600, our new one is 1400.
The difference is very noticeable.

Same. I hate my new one!

I can't find it now but I'm sure I saw a chart which showed the amount of water removed was significantly more with a higher spin speed.

It's one of the things that's important to me in a washing machine. I find it makes a big difference.

You could always get a freestanding spin dryer like my mum used to have in the 70s/80s 🫣

If you get a 1600 spin get a fancy one. We had a Beko and it came v close to catching fire on the fast spin, it was quite scary and was only a couple of years old. I could only find the same one again for under £500 so went with a Bosch that only has 1400 and it is fine, but 1600 is awesome.

I wouldn’t be without mine. It’s the first thing I look for when I’m buying a washing machine.

RunningFromInsanity · 14/10/2023 18:21

I’ve never used a spin over 1000 in my life and can’t think of a time when I’ve needed to.

My Beko 1600 spin is nearly 10 years old and has no issues at all when spinning at that speed.
You should only use the max speed on your machine when it has a full (or almost full) load though. If you try to spin a very light load on full speed your machine won't be happy - the weight won't distribute properly in the drum and your machine can't work properly.

shockeditellyou · 14/10/2023 20:36

It really creases clothes - I have to downrate our spin for things that aren’t towels.

The LG one is super noisy! I don't recommend it.
