Raised floorboards after leak

We've got oak flooring on the whole ground floor, had it done when we moved in and barring a few scrapes it's great. It's quite thick, about 2cm.

Unfortunately when plumbing in a new dishwasher there's been a leak from the sink and now there's a line of raised boards in the kitchen, ranging from about 1cm to probably 5.

Have tried squashing the worst offender with the kitchen island and a plank but to no avail.

Is there any hope of them subsiding or is it time to do a big sigh and get someone in to replace?

Unfortunately, once water gets into pretty much anything in the house, the damage is permanent.

From what you said, it sounds like you can cover the damaged floorboards with a kitchen island, so maybe you can do that and avoid having to replace anything. You could sand the raised area to the same height as the undamaged boards and simply cover it with the kitchen island.

If I were you, I'd treat all of the boards to prevent this from happening again. I won't suggest any products because I don't know what look you're going for, but go to any wooden flooring retailer and you'll probably be able to get advice on what to use. Good luck.
