Best gentle handwash?

I have 3 small hand knitted blankets which are nearly 25 years old, made by my mother. They disappeared for years and now I have found them. They are meant to be white, but are grey and a bit smelly (oldish, dustyish). I could try them in themachine on a gentle wash in a pillow case but I'm a bit worried about it and think I'd prefer to try handwashing.

They are 100% wool, fine baby wool. They each have a kind of satin ribbon doubled over one side and stitched. Dd loved them. Luckily they were in a paper bag and not plastic, so the wool will fall apart due to age, if it does fall apart at all.

What's the gentlest handwash I can get, that will still get the job done? I have ms and am not strong enough for much rubbing, wringing etc, but can soak as nauseam, and can do some gentle squeezing.

Thanks.

the absolute best thing of all time for a long gentle soak is Biotex. It gets out most things.

Unfortunately, they have stopped selling it in the UK (google it for more info) and I think it's a danish brand.
There are various ways to buy online - haven't tried to do so yet as still have some left - so can't vouch for any but if you look around you can probably find some to ship to the UK>

Brand Refill

Order Biotex Stain Removing Powder - Bleach Free 500 gram online from Brandrefill. We stock a wide range of Stain Removers at low prices. Also available in bulk / wholesale.

I've heard good things about Eucalan but have never tried it personally.

Lakeland also do a lovely lavender wool wash which I've used although I've never washed anything very dirty with it.

You get silk and wool wash in the supermarket.

You can also roll in a towel to soak up the worst of the water instead of any wringing.

Thanks all. Our supermarkets are not the best so I ended up with Woolite and found an old box of Dreft hanging about in the very back of a deep dark cupboard.

The blankets are looking much better, mum must have run out of wool halfwat through one as it is now bicoloured!
