Limescale toilet!

PinkRoses1245 · 03/10/2023 19:13

Can anyone please help with how to get rid of this limescale on a toilet (in house we just moved into)? I’ve tried everything but nothing sits on the sides for long enough. It won’t scrub off.

Have you tried white vinegar? Make sure the bowl is dry, soak some kitchen roll in white vinegar and leave it on the limescale for a few hours. That should shift it.

WhoHidTheCoffee · 03/10/2023 21:08

What have you tried? I shifted similar with repeated applications of Harpic, after Viakal didn’t touch the sides. Leave for the full hour, not 5 minutes!

Mossstitch · 03/10/2023 21:17

I'd use cif and a pan scrub, got limescale off a hideous stained bath in house I moved into.......looked like hadn't been cleaned for decades but was a nice shape/metal one that I didn't want to remove. (The toilet was removed☠️)

AuroraForever · 03/10/2023 21:27

Leave harpic on overnight. Then try rubbing a wet 2p coin against it (don’t use the edge, just rub it flat)

MistyMountainTop · 03/10/2023 21:35

Black Harpic. Always works for me.

I’ve tried white vinegar but only spraying. Will try soaking !

If all else fails then Spirit of Salt should do it. It is pure hydrochloric acid though, so can't be allowed to mix with anything else and if other cleaners have been used then a few good flushes are to be recommended first.

If it's badly scaled, it needs to soak for a while. I find the kitchen towel helps as it stops the vinegar just running off. Bog roll soaked in vinegar would work just as well. Anything to keep the vinegar in contact with the limescale.

Harpic Black apparently works. I've used soda crystals in the past. but it has to be flakes that will stick to the sides.

TheThunderer · 04/10/2023 18:35

I had one like that and no amount of limescale remover seemed to shift it.

In the end in desperation I shifted it with this pumice thing:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07RHNLJKR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

I was worried in case it scratched the surface of the loo, but weirdly it didn't. Maybe try it on a small area first, though, just to check?

RecycleMePlease · 04/10/2023 18:39

I've tried everything on mine, and my best results have come from sink and plug-hole unblocker (which I didn't expect, since I thought that was caustic soda, not acid).

Growuppeople · 04/10/2023 18:42

Just put a load of Bleach all over. Or harpic black tablets and the liquid round the rim leave overnight

Bleach does not remove limescale.

Black harpic is brilliant, and I've used the pumice stones above with success too.

Borborygmus · 04/10/2023 18:48

Perhaps give a descaler gel a try, for example:

LyndaSnellsSniff · 04/10/2023 19:25

Try Pink Stuff. It seems to clean everything!

ButterMyParsnip · 04/10/2023 19:39

I use a toilet brush to lower the water as much as possible (just stick it in and out) then spray viakal around the toilet bowl. I leave it for however long it takes me to remember I did it, then flush. After that, regularly using black harpic keeps it at bay.

itsmyp4rty · 04/10/2023 19:42

Domestos zero limescale toilet gel. I've always found it to be the best thing, it's really thick.

gotomomo · 04/10/2023 19:44

Cola, corn flour - make a paste, leave for a bit, comes up good as new

Avatartar · 04/10/2023 19:49

Be careful is using hydrochloric acid, the chemical reaction can melt plastic pipes - read a horror story of a baby in a cot in a flat below someone cleaning pipes with it- baby suffered burns as it melted the pipe and came through the ceiling

scrivette · 04/10/2023 19:54

I had a toilet that was horrendous when we moved in. Half a bottle of black Harpic removed it after I took most of the water out of the bowl.

OhcantthInkofaname · 04/10/2023 19:58

Pumice stone.

writteninthewater · 04/10/2023 20:54

Black harpic 100%

WithIcePlease · 04/10/2023 20:58

Black harpic overnight?
