Hi,
I wondered if I could ask a question about siting good wooden furniture next to a radiator, and how to minimise risk to the wood?
The item in question is a marimba (like a bass xylophone). It's more than 6 feet long and 3 feet wide at one end, so quite big. We have it in the dining room end of our kitchen-dining room, and at the moment it is right up against the radiator at the top end (pitch-wise). DS plays it while talking to me in the kitchen on and off through the day, so it really needs to be in that room.
I'm just wondering how far I need to nudge it away from the radiator to prevent the heat from drying the wood or over-heating it to the point where the pitch of the bars change, or the wood cracks.
I did wonder if I could just move it 6" away and put a big wooden sheet between the radiator and the marimba, but I don't really know what will work.
I wondered if anybody might know? I could ask in music, but I think it might be more of a question for people who think about houses and wood.
Thanks!
