Washing dirty clothes

Hi all,

I did a quick search to see if this topic had come up at all but couldn't see anything so thought I'd ask you all!

If your partner is a manual labourer and comes home with extremely dirty clothes, should they be washed separately to the general laundry or would you put them in the washing machine with the other day to day clothes?
Please help settle this debate 😃😃

Separately, I think, if oily and dirty.

Lizziekisss · 08/09/2023 22:20

My DS does what can sometimes be a dirty job. He has specific work clothes. They go in a separate laundry basket and get washed separately too. Been doing it that way for years. Works well for us.

Partner seems to be winning this debate! 😃😃😃
I understand the logic; I guess I was just thinking that it's all getting washed clean in the machine!

My partners job has oil, paint and other greasy stuff. Unfortunately not all these things come out and leave marks, I do it separately as im worried it will transfer onto other things.

Definitely separately and spot clean stains first let them absorb the cleaner then a hot wash

user1471474138 · 08/09/2023 22:29

We also do a separate wash at the end of the week (he even has a separate wash pile just for work clothes)Luckily has enough clothes to last a week

Theoldwoman · 10/09/2023 13:47

I separate. They go on a hotter wash than normal, plus a heavy duty cycle.

Screamingabdabz · 10/09/2023 13:54

The answer is, of course, separately. But the bigger question is why are you doing it when he’s a grown man and can wash his own clothes?

Mix56 · 10/09/2023 14:06

I always separate H!s work clothes
full of grit, gunge, mastc, ( nails or screws occasionally).
I do not want my clothes worn out

Thank you ladies. He'll be secretly gloating that he was right!!😃😃

Believe it or not, I enjoy doing the laundry so I may as well do it for the both of us! ☺️ Just in the same way, I can tend to our garden but my partner loves doing the garden so he just does it!

I wash my husbands boiler suits separately but the clothes he wears underneath go in with the normal washing.

I have to run a cleaning cycle after I do his boiler suit too because it's so dirty.

KirstenBlest · 10/09/2023 16:39

Soak very dirty clothes first then wash as normal.

SoIinvictus · 10/09/2023 16:40

Dp's stuff goes in at 60 with liquid anti stink detergent. Separate from mine

Helenahandkart · 10/09/2023 17:22

I do a lot of building work and my clothes are often covered in cement and mud.
I usually wash them out in a bucket first, then put them in the machine separate to other stuff.
My last washing machine died because of all the cement in it so I’m being more careful this time around.

Thanks everyone!
